Sudoku
There are many forms of Sudoku out there for the junkie. I have two friends that I've hooked, not to mention myself! Besides knitting, it is another form of enabling - enabling me to procrastinate that is. My book I picked up from Costco is well worn now. It travels well, and relaxes anytime.
Besides the daily Sudoku found in the newspaper, you have your Sudoku-A-Day Calendar (perfect for gift giving), books, and on line games. It's hard to shake once you're addicted. “First one’s free!” Both sites below have solving tips in addition to puzzles to help you get through some tough spots.

Capricorn's horoscope for today:
Be the best witness to your own life. Double-check your activities to make sure you are spending time on the things that really matter. Ask the opinion of people you consider "good."
It seems that this is the current theme for things in my life right now. My coworker who is into astrology says that I should wait for Neptune to come out of retrograde before starting anything (big) new.

Anniversary Socks
I seem to be on a roll with socks. I just finished the Go With the Flow Socks and now I have started the Anniversary Socks. I am still battling a nasty cold, so I've had lots of time to knit. I am even going to try and get out to my knitting group tomorrow night. posted by Wendy @ 9:05 PM 9 comments

Almost Finished
I have been home sick, so I have had plenty of time to knit on my socks. I should be done in the next day or so. It seems like a long time since I finished a knitting project and it will feel good to get one done. Besides, I need new socks! posted by Wendy @ 5:58 PM 0 comments

It's Knitting Circle's 4th Blogiversary!
I have been blogging for 4 years now! Of course I have to say not much in the past year or so due to my busy schedule. I have never stopped knitting though, and I am almost done with the Go with the Flow socks. Our snowy weather has been ad added plus on having time to finish my current project. I have to say though, that I am ready for the snow to go away now. Cabin fever is starting to set in.

When it comes to socks, I go by KISS (Keep It Simple, Stupid): I need them on the go, to relax, not to give me a headache. If they have complicated charts or a worksheet, I pass.
I knit my sock toe-up with a heel flap, and I have three cheat cards in my purse with all the essential numbers for gauges 7,8, and 9 per inch.

Knitting has been around for thousands of years. The earliest known knitted garment is a sock found in Egypt that dates from the 1st Century. In a monastery in Spain, you can still see a knitted silk cushion cover that was knitted for a prince. Several paintings from the 14th century depict the Virgin Mary knitting. The popularity of knitting has come and gone over the centuries, but is now seeing a resurgence.
What makes knitting so popular? Well, knitting is practical. You can take yarn and turn it into a garment that keeps you warm. Knitting is fun. It is not that complicated to learn basic knitting and most people who try it find it a really enjoyable craft. Finally, what you can make when you learn how to knit is only limited by your imagination. You can make your own clothes that fit your own style. You can knit toys, garments, accessories, jewelry, blankets and more.
There are all kinds of yarns on the market now. You have your basic cottons and wools. There are also a variety of acrylic yarns. Some knitters tend to stay away from acrylic yarns preferring natural yarns. But acrylic yarns have a place, as they tend to be washable and wont shrink. Whereas natural yarns like wool and cotton shrink. To get the benefits of both types of yarn, you can now buy blended yarn that can be washed, but have the look and feel of natural yarns. There is a trend right now for ecological yarn as well. Some of the newer ecological yarns are made from bamboo or corn, or from recycled material such as t-shirt remnants and recycled plastic. You can also find novelty yarns to knit alone or combine with another yarn for a distinctive look and texture. Novelty yarns include yarns that mimic fur or feathers, have pom-poms or is made from ribbon.

Running with scissors (and fatigue, too)
Viparita Karani - apparently it's good for "whatever ails you". And if I fall asleep with my legs up the wall and drool on the carpet, obviously it's what I needed. As far as running-when-tired goes, there are a few different philosophies - run if you're tired, it'll tell you something; don't run when you're tired, your form will be bad and you'll break yourself; run if you're tired, it teaches your body to work through fatigue; don't run if you're tired, you'll get sick. Blah blah blah. I can't work out whether the best thing is to push through or lay off. It seems it's a piece-of-string type of question - the worst type. The correct answer is, of course, "you have to try a few different things, and work it out for yourself (you bad lazy squeak!)". So that's what I'm doing. I'm playing around with a few things. Anyways, I'm putting a pic of my most recent couple of weeks, because I'm enormously proud of my little self for running the mileage I have this week with my fatigue levels the way they are. This is me, giving myself a gold star, and being happy about it. Woot! The most recent brown "trails/bush" entry was last weekend's glorious trail race. I might do a "race report" style entry on that later. :) Nov 12, 2010 12:02:58 PM

Knitting Celebrities
As I've continued to participate in the knitting community (communities)...it's amazing how many of the people with whom I've become acquainted have made names for themselves.
The Latest Success
My friend Brian (who I met through the West Coast Men's Fall Knitting Retreat, and who works at Skacel and who I got to hang out with while I was in Seattle) has recently had one of his designs published in the latest Vogue publication:
Entrelac - the Essential Guide to Interlace Knitting

And as I type, both Carol Sulcoski and Franklin are attracting crowds at Loop in Philadelphia with classes and beautiful yarns.
It's thrilling to see these friends get their due recognition...they're all incredibly talented and brilliantly creative.
I keep hoping some of their talent will rub off on me.
Current Knitting
I've been able to make extensive progress on the Felted Tweed zippered cardigan in the last couple of days.
