Cooking Methods Although Filipino food is one of complexity with its varied origins of Malay, Chinese and Spanish, yet the cooking methods are rather simple. Basically, the four cooking methods that support the foundation of Filipino cookery are boiling (nilaga), grilling (ihaw), roasting and steaming (halabos). These cooking methods form the very basis of the modern-day demand of healthy cooking. It was not until the arrival of the Spanish that the method of sauteeing (guisado) was "Filipinized" and introduced into the Filipino kitchen, adding to the basic forms of Filipino cookery. Bindaetuk Korean Soup Gul-bang-ee Mu Jim ... Curry
Breakfast Sandwiches Q Hi! When I was in Korea I used to eat egg and toast sandwiches made by street vendors, I think they were just called "Toasto." Is there a recipe for them? I know they put some sugar in, I'm not sure if it's anything else.
Life in Korea responded
Several vendors have different recipes, but the most common seems to be the following:
  • "toast" 2 slices of bread on a griddle (using way too much butter, but that's my personal opinion)
  • mix 1 egg with shredded cabbage, carrots, and onions, then fry
  • top egg with brown sugar and ketchup
  • place on toasted bread and eat like a sandwich
  • add ham or cheese, if desired

Bindaetuk Q My favourite street food in Korea is bindaetuk - pancakes made from mung beans. I recently found a recipe and tried to make them, but they were horrible - very tough and nothing like the ones I ate in Korea! Could you tell me how to make them (I am vegetarian)
Life in Korea responded
A: Bindaeddeok is a great source of nutrition for vegetarians.
The ingredients may consist of either seafood or vegetables, depending on your liking.

David Beckham takes cookery classes
South Korea News.Net
Wednesday 20th January, 2010 (IANS) After proving himself on the football field, David Beckham is set to become an expert chef. He is taking cookery lessons nowadays and says that he wants to learn how to make 'amazing pasta'.
The footballer, who is currently playing for AC Milan, is taking advantage of his stay in Italy by learning how to prepare classic pasta dishes, reported hollywood.com.
'I've joined a culinary school and I'm on a course that entails 120 hours of lessons and cooking. It's something I've always wanted to do. I've always loved cooking. Now I'm in Italy, I want to learn how to make amazing pasta,' said Beckham.
'It's gone from a small ambition of wanting to learn how to make pasta to the extreme of doing this course professional chefs do. It's something I'm passionate about,' he added. Email this story to a friend

Shallow Frying Deep Frying Paper-wrapped Frying Steaming ... Stir Fry Shallow frying
There are four methods of frying using a shallow amount of fat or oil.
  • Shallow Fry : cooking of food in a small amount of fat or oil in a frying pan or saute pan. The presentation side of the food should be fried first as this side will have the better appearance because the fat is clean, then turned so that both sides are cooked and coloured.
  • Saute
    • cooking tender cuts of meat and poultry in a saute or frying pan. After cooking, the fat is discarded and the pan is deglazed with stock or wine. This forms an important part of the finished sauce. Only tender foods can be used.
    • also used when cooking, for example, potaoes or onions when they are cut into slices or pieces and tossed in hot shallow fat or oil in a frying pan till golden brown.
  • Griddle : e.g. hamburgers, sausages, sliced onions, are placed on a lightly oiled, pre-heated griddle (solid metal plate), and turned frequently during cooking.

Go to:- K orea Featured Ingredient Korea Speciality Dish Cooking by Country Main Page North and South Korea form a peninsula which has a land border with China to the north and a total 4908km of coastline on the Sea of Japan, Yellow Sea, Korean Bay and Korea Straight. About two thirds of the country is made up of mountainous and hilly terrain although there are wide coastal plains in the south and west, large streams and rivers. Between the mountains lie lowlands which were formed by river valleys and sea terraces and as these only constitute approximately 20 percent of the peninsula, most lowland areas are cultivated. Due to its position, Korea has many microclimates although in general it can be described as having a temperate monsoonal climate ranging from hot and humid in the summer to bitterly cold in the winter.
