South Korean Culture
If South Korean culture interests you this is the article for you, which discusses food, home, music, dance and art of Korea. South Korea is a beautiful country and as an Asian I know it has to be rooted in the ancient tradition of Korea that might at times come across as primitive. It can be dated back to somewhere around five thousand years. There are grottos, temples and pagodas that are still there and are for the young generation to see and understand their roots and origin. To understand the architecture, as a matter all the physical manifestations of culture can be understood if the culture in the minds of the people can be comprehended. Here we will attempt something like that.
South Korean Culture: Mythological Past of Korea
Earlier Koreans believed that a the nation of Korea was formed when a God called Hwanung came from heaven and transformed a bear into a woman and then marries her. They had a son out of the marriage who was named Tangun was the one who established the capital of Korea and called it Joseon or the Land of Morning Calm. So this is how was the Korean Nation established. The ancient culture of South Korea was same as of North Korea but then after the two were divided, now the contemporary cultures of the two are different. The Korean culture was not influenced by the western culture as the Silla Mountain worked as a barrier. Therefore Korea developed a distinct culture of its own though there are elements of the Chinese and Japanese culture that invaded Korea number of times.

Korean Culture Camp
Adoptive Families Support Association is proud to announce its twenty-first annual Culture Camp for Korean-American children. Camp will be held July 13-17 (2010) at the St. Leonard Youth Retreat Center in Avon, Ohio, which is about 20 miles west of downtown Cleveland. The program is open to children ages 7 (who have completed first grade) through 17 years. Its purpose is to develop a positive self-image among Korean-American children. Through participation in games, crafts, and music, and exposure to the foods, language and history of Korea, campers will develop a greater understanding and appreciation of their cultural heritage. We will also have plenty of regular camp activities such as games, sports, and a Saturday night campfire. An adult staff of at least 14 is planned: approximately 9 Korean-American counselors and 5 AFSA parents. All campers sleep in dormitories with adult supervision and all meals are provided. Camp fees are $290 for your first child and $225 for each addition child. Non-Korean siblings are welcome! If you have any questions, please contact Paul or Brenda Hartman at (440) 729-2949 or via e-mail at

This article is about the traditional culture of Korea . For the modern culture, see Contemporary Culture of North Korea and Contemporary Culture of South Korea
The traditional culture of Korea has its mythical beginnings 5000 years ago. The legend of Dangun , the mythical founder of Korea, makes an impact upon Korean culture to this day. Add to that the profound impact of Shamanism, Buddhism, Daoism Confucianism , and Christianity, and it yields the varied and colorful culture that is Korea. Although Korea today is divided North and South , the roots of their traditional culture remain the same. Their political ideologies are far less powerful than their cultural and historical common ground. Lotus Lantern Festival North Korea and South Korea traditionally share the culture of Korea, although the political separation of the two nations has created two, distinct Korean cultures.
