Best Places to Drive in America
Allstate has released Allstate America's Best Drivers Repor t ( PDF of list )which lists cities by the longest period of time between car accidents for the average driver.
The top five are
  • Sioux Falls, South Dakota (13.7 years between accidents) Fort Collins, Colorado Flint, Michigan Warren, Michigan Hunstville, Alabama
The bottom five are
  • Jersey City, New Jersey Glendale, California Elizabeth, New Jersey Washington, District of Columbia Newark, New Jersey (5.2 years between accidents)
The coastal areas come off the worse. The greater DC area of Washington, Alexandria, and Arlington are horrible driving death traps. However, nothing beats New Jersey, the land where governors who press government control of everything speed at speeds above ninety-miles per hour while not wearing a seat belt.
For a good place to live, try the interior of the country. Sioux Falls has already been noted by having

Kurdistan Geography Kurdistan is located in the Middle East between present Iraq, Iran, Turkey, and Syria. It is situated in the north of Iraq, southeast of Turkey, northwest of Iran, and northeast of Syria. Kurdistan has no political border, what exists is a partition of the land into three main territories. Those parts are linked to the border countries, i.e. Iraq, Iran, Turkey, and Syria. This compulsory partition was done as a result of the Word War One aftermath. Kurdistan is a mountainous country; the most famous mountain is Ararat, which is believed by scientists that it is the mountain at which Noah's Ark's ship has settled after the big flood. The main sources of fresh water in the Middle East are in Kurdistan, the Euphrates and the Tigress which both come out form south east of Anadhol in Turkey and flow to Iraq and Syria. Currently, Turkey is building 13 dams on these two rivers which is believed by year 2013 will give here power over most countries in the Middle East as providing fresh water will be the main problem between nations in the area. Kurdistan, a region that includes southeast Turkey, northern Syria, northeast Iraq, northwest Iran, and a small part of Armenia. It covers about 74,000 square miles (192,000 km2). Kurdistan is not a political or geographical unit, but a region inhabited by the Kurds, a people resembling the Iranians in race and language. Kurdistan is largely mountainous. The Kurds raise cattle, sheep, and goats, and grow tobacco, fruit, rice, wheat, and barley. They are known as proud people, fierce fighters, and devout Muslims. Kurdish hopes for a country of their own led them to revolt against Turkey in 1925 and 1930, and against Iran in 1946. In 1961 the Kurds began a guerrilla campaign against Iraq. In 1970 Iraq granted the Kurds limited autonomy. Following the Persian Gulf War in 1991 the Kurds launched a rebellion against Iraq that was crushed by Iraqi troops. In Turkey the Kurdish Workers' Party began waging guerilla warfare in 1984. In 1999 Abdullah Ocalan, the party's leader, was captured and convicted of treason and separatism. Kurdistan Kurdistan (literally meaning "the land of Kurds") (old: Koordistan Curdistan Kurdia , also in Kurdish: Kurdewar ) is the name of a geographic and cultural region in the Middle East, inhabited traditionally predominantly by the Kurds. As a traditional ethnographic region, Kurdistan is generally held to include the contiguous regions in northern and northeastern Mesopotamia with large Kurdish populations. According to Encyclopdia Britannica , Kurdistan is a mountainous region of Turkey, Iran, Iraq, and Syria, inhabited predominantly by Kurds including 27-28 million people in a 190,000 km (74,000 sq. mi) area, while according to the Encyclopaedia of Islam , it includes a 390,000 km area. Others estimate as many as 40 million Kurds live in Kurdistan, which covers an area as big as France. Larger parts of Kurdistan became a province of the Ottoman Empire. Following World War I and the collapse of the Ottoman Empire, Kurds were promised an independent nation-state in the 1920 Treaty of Svres. Turkish nationalists, however, rejected the terms of the treaty, and following the defeat of the Greek forces in the Greco-Turkish War (1919-1922), the Treaty of Lausanne was signed in 1923 in Turkey's favor. The larger area known as Turkish Kurdistan or Northern Kurdistan was given to Turkey and the rest was accepted as part of the British Empire (except for the Iranian Kurdistan, which at that time was part of Persia). Since that time Kurdish nationalists have continued to seek independence in an area including the region identified at Svres. However, the idea of an independent nation-state came to a halt when the surrounding countries joined to reject the independence of Kurdistan.

Geography, politics and history have conspired to render 30 million Kurds the largest stateless people in the Middle East. The Kurds in Iran are believed to number approximately five million. Their situation in Iran is said to be far from stable, with the area in Northwestern Iran which they inhabit being under Iranian government control, in which living conditions are described as primitive, at best). Since April 1993, Iranian government forces have reportedly launched aerial attacks against Iranian Kurds, even those operating inside Iraqi territory, while Iraqi forces made armed incursions into the "protected zone" inside Iraq above the 36th parallel. Komala (or Komaleh) was founded in 1969, and led by Ibrahim Alizadeh. The name of the party is variously reported to stand for Komala lidni Kurdistan [Council on Rebirth of Kurdistan] or Komalay Shoreshgeri Zahmatkeshani Kurdistani Iran [Organization of Revolutionary Toilers of Iranian Kurdistan]. The group favours autonomy for the Kurds in Iran. It cooperated briefly with the Kurdish Democratic Party of Iran. The group has reportedly waged guerrilla warfare against government forces since 1979 with the aim of achieving Kurdish autonomy, and as of 1992 was said to be primarily active in the Sanandadj region.

Iraq-Kurdistan: Young Woman Stoned to Death for Eloping
17/06/2008: Iraq-Kurdistan - "In one of the latest honor killings to come to public attention, Kurdistan Aziz was 16 years old when she escaped her family with a man she knew they would not accept, and courageously following the ancient tradition of 'radu kauten' they eloped together to Arbil, the capital city of Iraqi Kurdistan. They planned to start a life together. But her father had other ideas for her; not of love, happiness or choice but that she must die for this rebellion against the patriarchal order.
The girl was well aware of the risk so she asked the police for help in the KDP controlled city. They referred her to the Department to End Domestic Violence. This Department, pledged to protect girls like Kurdistan proved themselves corrupt in accepting a bribe from her father and turned her over to him knowing the consequences. No Kurd could claim to be unaware of the dangers of returning a young woman to her father in this situation, particularly not a professional within a Department of this nature. The person who accepted this bribe is an accessory to murder since that is what 'honour' killing is, controlled murder. Kurdistan Aziz was taken back to her family; they chose to kill her by the method of stoning her to death on the Hawre Mountain. A local woman's organization alerted the authorities in the Governate of Sulemaniya, controlled by the PUK. The PUK refused to intervene in a 'tribal issue' and asked the women's organization to risk their own safety to provide a photograph of her. On 17-18th of May, at 16 years old, Kurdistan Aziz, the girl who fell in love, was killed by her relatives, her body crushed with rocks.
