4. HISTORY
Renamed later as Northern and Southern Alberta Heritage Language Associations (NAHLA SAHLA) A Cultural Policy for Edmonton. His Worship Mayor L. Decore.
http://www.sahla.ca/history1.htm
SAHLA’s BACKGROUND In 1978, the Alberta Ethnic Language Teachers' Association (AELTA) was founded by highly committed educators who strongly believed in the promotion and preservation of cross-cultural understanding through heritage/international language instruction and education. Because of the wide coverage of the organization, AELTA decided to create two regions, namely, Northern Alberta Heritage Language Association (NAHLA) and Southern Alberta Heritage Language Association (SAHLA). NAHLA and SAHLA were both established in 1985 as not-for-profit sister umbrella organizations that actively promote international/heritage languages education, multiculturalism and intercultural understanding. The mission of NAHLA and SAHLA is to lead, advocate and provide resources for the promotion of effective international/heritage languages education. Both serve as the umbrella body for approximately 50 heritage language schools, also known as community-based language schools involved in the teaching of international languages. These non-profit associations represent all levels of language instruction and education for over 32 languages and 12,000+ students of international languages outside of the public and separate school systems. NAHLA and SAHLA and community-based language schools play an important and unduplicated role in the overall promotion, maintenance and enhancement of international/heritage languages education in Alberta

Mary P. Nichols. Reconstructing Woody: Art, Love, and Life in the Films of Woody Allen
    Douglas W. Reitinger
University of Wyoming Mary P. Nichols' Reconstructing Woody: Art, Love, and Life in the Films of Woody Allen is a text full of valuable insights, especially in the way it examines the philosophical nature of a number of Woody Allen's films. Nichols' text offers the reader a strong foundation on which to build an understanding of Allen and his work. Reconstructing Woody is structured so that each of fourteen chapters is devoted to a different film in much of the Allen corpus. (Unfortunately, however, one of my personal favorites, an early Woody Allen comedy, Love and Death , is left out of Nichols' study.) Most of the chapters in Nichols' text adopt a New Critical approach: a strong close reading of the film is offered, often followed with a discussion of Allen's use of analogues and homages that can be found firmly fixed within the traditions of literature and philosophy. Chapters analyzing Sophocles's Oedipus the King in its relationship to Mighty Aphrodite and insights into how Plato's "Allegory of the Cave" is played out in Stardust Memories are examples of Nichols' greatest strength. Nichols is able, with obvious ease, to articulate and explain the nuances of Allen's work in its allusive relationship not only with the classical texts mentioned above, but she is also able to find connections to modern thinkers. In her illuminating discussion of Allen's films, Nichols also employs such twentieth-century minds as Sigmund Freud (specifically
