LegalCORPS, a business law pro bono program started by the Minnesota State Bar Association (MSBA), is now up and running. Through the recently incorporated nonprofit, business lawyers will donate their time and legal services to other nonprofit corporations and very small businesses to assist in economic development. Minnesota Lawyer .) It came about in large part due the vision of former MSBA president James L. Baillie. a lot Genereux Unmet need Much of the pro bono work traditionally handled by attorneys involves litigation, in areas like family law, immigration, employment and housing. For nearly a year, the task force conducted regular meetings in which it heard presentations from people and community groups that had insight into the need for small businesses to receive legal services. At the end of the process, the task force issued a fairly extensive report of its findings. According to Genereux , who co-chaired the task force along with Baillie, the group concluded that the need and the interest were there.

In 2007-08, one hundred fifty-four law students, more than a quarter of the student body, provided hundreds of hours of pro bono service to legal aid offices, non-profit public interest law organizations, government agencies, private attorneys representing low-income clients, law student pro bono projects, and the public schools. Information for Law Students
The Pro Bono Program facilitates volunteer placements with public interest law organizations in the area and across the state. Click here for a list of organizations where NCCU Law students have volunteered during the past two years. Law students can also volunteer with several established student group pro bono projects. These include VITA (volunteer income tax assistance for low-income taxpayers); the Know Your Rights Immigration Law Project; Elder Law Pro Bono Project; and Foreclosure Prevention Project. Assistance and support is available for students who want to develop their own pro bono project. The Pro Bono Program sponsors events throughout the year, including nationally known speakers, panels featuring local public interest attorneys, and a Pro Bono Open House, a student-to-student recruiting event for pro bono. Together with the Office of Career Services and the student Public Interest Law Organization, NCCU-PILO, the Program co-sponsors the annual Public Interest Law Fair, an opportunity for students to meet representatives from public interest organizations from across North Carolina, learn about pro bono opportunities, and interview for summer internships.

Welcome to the Pro Bono Program Homepage
The University of South Carolina School of Law believes it is important to foster the ethic of professional obligation to provide service to the public, especially to those who cannot afford legal help. The Pro Bono Program works to connect knowledge to the real world and for over 19 years, USC law students have been actively involved in a variety of activities in service to the community. The range of opportunities is varied and ever changing. Details about the different efforts are listed under the Volunteer Opportunities section of this web page. Through their pro bono work students are able to explore career options as well as gain knowledge and skills of lasting professional benefit, all while making our state and community a better place for everyone. For USC School of Law students: The Pro Bono Program is a purely voluntary program. The American Bar Association asks that each lawyer in the country donate 50 hours a year to public service and we urge each student to personally strive toward a similar goal. To enroll in a project, ask questions or to explore new ideas, complete the attached Volunteer Enrollment Form or come by the office in Room 233. Need more information? What is the Pro Bono Pledge?
At Georgetown Law, we are dedicated to the principle that members of the legal profession and those aspiring to enter the legal profession have a professional obligation to assist in providing quality legal services to individuals, groups or causes that are under-represented in the legal system. In furtherance of this principle, Georgetown Law challenges all incoming J.D. law students to pledge at least 75 hours of law-related volunteer work before they graduate. Second year J.D. transfer students and two year LL.M. candidates are asked to pledge 50 hours and one year LL.M. candidates, 25 hours. Students meeting their pledge goals are acknowledged at Commencement and receive a certificate marking their contribution.
