There are myriad ways to earn money without having to commute to work everyday, deal with office politics and settle for a salary that doesn’t seem to justify the work you do. These are typical issues you can hear from paralegals or legal assistants who do their bosses’ legal field researches while having to take other errands such a short trip to the laundry shop for them. Sounds like an awful end to the 2-4 years of paralegal studies you strived for, isn’t it? All hail to the birth of virtual paralegal! Yes, what convenience the Internet gives to the oppressed in the workforce. There are available paralegal work from home that allows law graduates to do freelance paralegal jobs in the comforts of their home. Most of the time, at least a bachelor, post-graduate or certificate degree in law will suffice for you to secure a job as a virtual paralegal. Paralegal work from home requires you to have both written and oral communication skills as you will have to deal with your boss, resource person and client either through correspondence or through personal meetings. Of course, you can only be qualified if you have computer word processing and Internet skill as most of the work is given and submitted through Internet messaging.

Melanie Kraft is a partner at Epstein Cole with a focus on family law and solicitor's negligence matters. She is also regularly involved in the co-mediation of family law matters with Dr. Howard Irving.
Melanie has authored and co-authored numerous papers and reference materials on family law, including a chapter in the Family Law Reference Materials for the Bar Admission Course. Most recently she has been involved in designing and drafting the spousal support and custody and access sections of an electronic bench book for the National Judicial Institute. Melanie is also an editor of the Reports in Family Law.
In addition to her extensive writings, Melanie also speaks regularly to groups on various family law and mediation topics, teaches the Family Law Section at the Bar Admission Course, and is an instructor in the Family Law Mediation Certificate program at the University of Toronto. She recently prepared the program materials and lectured on settlement conferences in a family law context for the National Judicial Institute.
Melanie was called to the Bar in 1996, and has extensive training in comprehensive mediation. She is a member of both the family law section of the Ontario Bar Association and Family Mediation Canada (Ontario).

I. Introduction The Paralegal Program has adopted the following Assessment Plan in furtherance of its mission to prepare broadly educated graduates who will be well-equipped to deal with their ever-changing personal and professional lives. The results of the student assessment measures along with additional measures described in the Program Evaluation Plan (see attached), will be used to evaluate, validate, and update the Paralegal Program. II. Desired Student Outcomes
  • To know a wide variety of substantive and procedural law, such as contracts, torts, family law, business organizations, civil and criminal investigation, bankruptcy, probate and estate planning, real property, public benefits, and administrative law. To identify and analyze legal issues. To research the law using the full range of law reference materials, including computerized legal research.
