He is getting older (12) and looks at special ed as something for the "dumb" kids. He says all his friends make fun of him for having learning problems. How can i convince him that this isn't such a bad step after all? Your Name

I was in special ed all through school and high school. It wasen't as bad as I thought it would be. You don't have to do hard work and you will be very happy about getting A or bs. He will make friends in his classes and if his other friends are going to teas him about being in special ed they are not very good friends or his true friends. I know that is hard to realize but sometime later in life he might find that out a lot. I hope i have helped you a bit let me know thanks. I hope every thing goes well. I'm sure your son is very smart in his own special way all kids are.

Christian Boarding School for Troubled Teens
"I will give you Shepherds after my own heart, who will lead you with knowledge and understanding." Jeremiah 3:15
We know your child...we really do. After 20 years working with difficult and rebellious teenagers, we know what you are going through. Your home has become a nightmare. Your child is angry, running with the wrong crowd, perhaps dabbling in drugs, alcohol or sex, and in trouble at school. You’ve been told your child has ADD, ADHD, OCD or some other “disorder.” He/she has been in counseling, but that doesn't seem to be helping. And now you don't know what to do or how to respond to their anger and disrespect. Nothing is working, so a new plan needs to be put in place. While Shepherd's Hill Farm is not free and it surely isn't cheap, many parents attribute our help to saving their child's life and getting their child back on track motivationally, academically and spiritually. Perhaps that is a good investment for your family as well. If so, let us help your child. Inquire now to learn more. Trace and Beth Embry Meet Our Staff

MLED3072 Diversity/Exceptionalities News Page
Latest news as of Friday night, May 7, 2004. This is the first time since being at Tech that I have had to give two finals on Friday of Finals Week. In fact, it's not often that I give any finals on Friday. Grades are not out yet and I hope to get them out by mid-morning on Monday. Sorry. There is a sample of how to do the readings if you want to see it. And here is a sample of the MLED 3072 RAP if you would like to see it. This one is written to the outline you will be given in class; similar ones but written to slightly different outlines are on the and pages. Adaptations for mentally retarded. Present a limited amount of content, then "dwell" on it. MRs have a lot of need for repetition. Make the progression from easy to difficult a very slow progression with a lot of practice on each task to be learned. Have them show mastery over that small amount of content before they are allowed to go any further. Learning disabled. LDs experience a lot of perceptual confusion either through visual, auditory, or tactile senses. This is a bit of an oversimplification, but it gives an idea: If the learning disability is a visual one, present LDs with handouts or other information that does not have too much on any one given page. Size 14 or 16 print, triple spaced, with at least one inch margins, is a good idea. Be aware of the readability level of what you are giving them, avoiding long words and long sentences. If possible, include pictures along with the text. You won't have to "dwell" as long on any given topic with LDs as you did for MRs. But avoid time limits and rushed situations.
