Remember Me Latest News Popular Are Women Becoming More Like Men? Written by Dan Ronco Friday, 12 November 2010 13:34 Are women becoming too masculine. Where will it end?
My novels are set slightly into the future: PeaceMaker in 2012, Unholy Domain in 2022, and 2031: The Singularity Pogrom in, well, 2031. In the initial planning for these novels, I researched trends in technology and Western culture, with the objective to make the settings realistic. I tested this research against a lifetime of observation, and solicited feedback from reviewers and writers. What I discovered led me to create a balance of power between the sexes in the near future. It became clear, at least to me, that the two genders were moving toward each other in world view, attitude and actions. Women were becoming more like men and men more like women (but that’s a subject for another time). I don’t claim this is a conclusion based upon rigorous scientific procedures, but however informal, it makes sense to me.
When men think about women, we always focus first on appearance, so let’s start there. Is she pretty? Not too heavy, but with plenty of curves? Soft, pure face of an angel? Those are the questions we asked thirty years ago, and we still ask them today, but the women have changed.

Every Shallow Cut And Napier’s Bones
posted by Dave ChiZine Publications has announced that the special limited edition hardcovers of Every Shallow Cut by Tom Piccirilli and Napier’s Bones by Derryl Murphy are now available for pre-order from Horror Mall. The first two books in ChiZine’s upcoming Spring 2011 line, this novella and novel jumpstart what is going to be a busy and interesting year for this small Toronto press. Every Shallow Cut is a short novella by the four-time Bram Stoker award winning author Tom Piccirilli. The hardboiled dark fiction follows a nameless protagonist through the streets of New York as he shifts through the ashes of a failed career, marriage and family life. Joined by his bulldog Churchill, the narrator witnesses various tragedies and crimes, which bring out the killer in him. Not only is the storytelling as unique as the many hand-picked titles from ChiZine, but the short format of the novella is once again championed. Following Every Shallow Cut is Napier’s Bones by author Derryl Murphy, a novel that co-publisher Sandra Kasturi is very excited about.

http://marysilgals.tripod.com/genre.html
LITERATURE GENRES
defines genre as "a genus, sort, or style; especially a category of art of literature characterized by a certain form, style, subject matter or atmosphere." Children's literature provides an array of genres from which children may choose to read. Unfortunately, some children have not been introduced to a variety of genres. In my opinion, some children who do not like to read have yet to find a genre that is entertaining to them, but instead, they have had books pre-selected for them to read. I believe that children who are exposed to a variety of genres will eventually find one that suits them, entertains them, excites them, and they will go looking for more of the same. Sometimes, this may happen through finding an author they like, sometimes it may be a series of books by an author, or sometimes it may be just the genre itself. My goal is to help children learn what they want to read, and in turn, help them become readers for life. The library incentive program for fourth graders this year is based upon learning and reading about different genres. The students keep a record of their progress in a journal. They earn a sticker for each book they read. Each sticker represents a genre. After reading two books from a particular genre, the student receives a patch/badge. After 10 books have been read from five different genres, the student earns a cap with the badges sewn on it. The cap may be worn to school and in the school building as long as no alteration has been made to it.
