National Livestock Management Database
The NLMD was formed in 1990 as a tool to assist the farming industry to achieve greater value for livestock and to increase the profitability of farm stock. The concept was simple; to take existing information from the farmer and portray it in such a way as to highlight areas where the farmer was doing well, and achieving a good return, and to highlight areas where this was not the case. Having gained the support of the farming community during it's pilot in 2005/6 with the South West Livestock Pilot, the NLMD is being regularly updated with new features and reporting tools. To use the NLMD, you must be a registered user. Registration is simple and free of charge. As a registered user, you can upload your data to the NLMD directly from the FarmWorks by Shearwell Data program. By registering you are able to view data reports generated from the FarmWorks backup file. For more information about the reports that are available, click here

Premium awards paid to Junior and Open exhibitors at last year's Livestock Show totaled over $70,000. Exhibitors traveled from 18 states across the country, bringing nearly 2,000 head of the nation's best cattle, horses, sheep, goats, and swine to enter the competition. We sell 135 of the highest placing market animals at our Junior Market Auction on January 1st each year. The Auction motivates Junior Exhibitors to excel in their livestock projects and offers them an opportunity to reap a financial reward for their efforts. A portion of the Sale proceeds benefit the Arizona National Scholarship Program for college level students, one of the means by which we fulfill our mission to provide support for upcoming generations of agricultural entrepreneurs. 100. Breeds Of Livestock - Cattle Breeds
Brief history, descriptions, alternative names, and photographs for hundreds of breeds.
    http://www.ansi.okstate.edu/breeds/cattle/
    Cattle: (Bos)
Remains of domesticated cattle dating to 6,500 B.C. have been found in Turkey and other sites in the Near East approach this age also. Some authorities date the domestication of cattle as early as 10,000 years ago, and others almost half that amount of time. Regardless of the time frame it is generally accepted that the domestication of cattle followed sheep, goats, pigs and dogs. Modern domestic cattle evolved from a single early ancestor, the aurochs. In addition to prehistoric painting that help us identify the appearance of the auroch the species actually survived until relatively modern times. It is believed the last surviving member of the species was killed by a poacher in 1627 on a hunting reserve near Warsaw, Poland. The species may have survived in small number in other parts of the world until a later date but there is no evidence to support this theory. Early cattle served a triple-purpose. They provided meat, milk and labor to their owners. Eventually their draft purposes were largely replaced by horses and much later by machinery so they were selected more for single or in some cases dual purposes.
