Damages by Cyclone Giri in Myanmar
Dear Friends and supporters: The tropical cyclone Giri slammed into the nation, Myanmar on October 22nd and 23rd battering Rakhine State, a city of more than 1 million, Magwe and Sagaing divisions with wind sometimes exceeding 140 km an hour. Warning about this storm was aired from foreign news and media days before. The storm is strong but a bit less than Cyclone Nargis which hit the country in 2008, destroyed many houses and killed about 150,000 people. The most heavily damaged places were in Kyauktaw, Myebon, Minbya townships and many villages in Rakhine State and some other villages and towns in the Magwe and Sagaing divisions directly hit by the storm. Thanks, But No Thanks
    Written by Professor Joseph Lau
    Post Categories: Holidays Lead Story
Post Tags: thank god thanks for nothing thanksgiving Enter into His gates with thanksgiving, and into His courts with praise. Be thankful to Him, and bless His name. For the LORD is good; His mercy is everlasting, and His truth endures to all generations I invite you to consider with me two common expressions with the word “thanks” in them, and to apply them to spiritual matters.
The first is “Thanks, but no thanks.”
This expression is used in our society as a polite way of acknowledging the generous offer of someone but then for whatever reason declining the offer. Perhaps we don’t want the contents of the offer or we may think that the offer is too much and we are undeserving of it. During this month our country as well as many others set aside a specific day to remember to give thanks for what we have been given.

LCMC Welcomes 351 new congregations since August 19, 2009 LCMC reaches new milestone of 500 congregations More
    Celebrate!
The tenth annual gathering of LCMC, "Celebrate Jesus Christ the Same Yesterday Today and Forever" , took place at Calvary Lutheran Church in Golden Valley, MN, October 3-6. This was indeed a time to celebrate as we thanked and praised God for ten years of His guiding LCMC, the milestone of over 500 congregations in the association, and a record breaking attendance of nearly 1100 members and guests.
Calvary Lutheran Church served as the gracious hosts and shared not only their space, but the wonderful gifts of their pastors, worship team, staff and many volunteers. We thank Pastor Steve Dornbusch and the choir and musicians of Calvary for setting the tone of the gathering with their powerful messages in the opening worship on Sunday evening.
Dynamic worship led by teams from Trinity Lutheran Church of Minnehaha and Calvary Lutheran began each session and ushered us into spirit-filled Bible study presented by Pastors Enrique Estrada, Christine Rasmussen and Leland Lantz. Christ-centered keynote presentations by Efrem Smith, Johann Hinderlie, and Challa Baro inspired and blessed the entire gathering. Gifted leaders shared mission opportunities and ministry ideas and at fifty varied breakout sessions held over a two day period.

Random Thoughts of a Confessional Lutheran
This blog has returned. The motivations may have changed (I fear my daughter will have no place to go churchwise when she is older), but the formula is still the same. Truth mixed with sarcasm and anger.
Wednesday, January 14, 2009
It's been a while since I posted here. This used to be a happening blog four or five years ago. Now, people have been waiting to see what happens. If you read my post a while back on the other blog, you know the fire is back. It is being fueled by something different this time: fear my children will have nowhere to go.
I plan on starting at ground zero of this whole mess: church and change. I will begin to work my way out to all sorts of people. Gutless district presidents, synodical officials, and whoever else is trying to turn the WELS into Babtists with sacraments.
It is sad I have to do this again after railing on the LCMS for so long, but I fear for my child. At some point, all the faithful will have to come to grips with a post-synodical world. Every major synod is faltering. Sad, but true. posted by RandomDan @ 1/14/2009 08:00:00 PM 4 Comments Links to this post
