Macedonia : History
Throughout its history, the present-day territory of Macedonia has been a crossroads for both traders and conquerors moving between the European continent and Asia Minor. Each of these transiting powers left its mark upon the region, giving rise to a rich and varied cultural and historical tradition. After the fall of the Western Roman Empire, the territory of Macedonia fell under the control of the Byzantine Empire in the 6th and 7th centuries. It was during this period that large groups of Slavic people migrated to the Balkan region. The Ottoman Turks conquered the territory in the 15th century; it remained under Ottoman Turkish rule until 1912. After more than four centuries of rule, Ottoman power in the region began to wane, and by the middle of the 19th century, Greece, Bulgaria, and Serbia were competing for influence in the territory. During this time, a nationalist movement emerged and grew in Macedonia. The latter half of the 19th century, and continuing into the early part of the 20th century, was marked by sporadic nationalist uprisings, culminating in the Ilinden Uprising of August 2, 1903.

Macedonia History Macedonia Community In the early 1800's a young man named Henry Woods came across a stream he named Indian Run. Some years later, a man named Abraham Cranmer from Northfield purchased 90 acres of property near Indian Run at the intersection of Jenkins and N. Bedford Roads. This is where he built his home in 1824, the first log house in this new settlement. Soon other people moved to this new settlement known as "The Corners". A log school house was built in 1833, a frame church in 1835, and there was an Inn for weary travelers on the stage coach line from Pittsburgh to Cleveland. More Information

Church Deed 2003, the members of Macedonia undertook the charge to organize a "Grand Centennial Celebration." Various committees were formed including a research committee. Under the guidance of Ms. Tracie D. Alexander, this group searched the archives and discovered an original deed showing the purchase of the land on West Henry Street in the year 1894. They discovered that while the church may have been chartered in 1904, the Macedonia Baptist Church was actually organized ten years prior. What a discovery! Although we have not uncovered any additional information, the history of Macedonia Baptist Church represents faith, hope, and a strong determination by its members to make progress. The story you are about to read was told by Deacon James T. Templeton. Deacon Templeton vividly recalls the "old days and was gracious enough to offer a very factual recollection of Macedonia down through the years. This invaluable data was organized and documented by Deacon Lewis C. Davis and sanctioned by the Historical Committee. What follows is the history of Macedonia Missionary Baptist Church, past and present.

Macedonia : History
Throughout its history, the present-day territory of Macedonia has been a crossroads for both traders and conquerors moving between the European Continent and Asia Minor. Each of these transiting powers left its mark upon the region, giving rise to a valuable and varied cultural and historical tradition. The ancient territory of Macedon, included, in addition to the areas of the present-day Macedonia, large parts of present-day Northern Greece and Southwestern Bulgaria. This ancient kingdom reached its height during the reign of Alexander III ("the Great"), who extended Macedon's determine over most of Asia Minor, the Levant, Egypt, Mesopotamia, Persia, and even parts of India. After Alexander's death in 323 BC, the Macedon Empire gradually declined, until it was conquered in 168 BC and made a province by the Romans in 148 BC. A coalition of ruling ethnic Macedonian and ethnic Albanian political leaders, with facilitation by U.S. and European Union (EU) diplomats, negotiated and then signed the Ohrid Framework Agreement in August 2001. The agreement called for implementation of constitutional and legislative changes, which lay the foundation for improved civil rights for minority groups. The Macedonian Parliament adopted the constitutional changes outlined in the accord in November 2001. Efforts are currently underway to implement remaining provisions in the Framework Agreement with international assistance.

Country Details

The historic country of Macedonia was once the Kingdom of Macedon, ruled by Alexander the Great (355-325 BC)
Over many centuries it was exploited by the Romans, Byzantines, Bulgars and Serbs; finally conquered by the Ottoman Empire.
Macedonia gained its independence peacefully from Yugoslavia in 1991, but Greece's objection to the new state's use of what it considered a Hellenic name and its symbols delayed international recognition, which occurred under the provisional designation of "the Former Yugoslav Republic of Macedonia."
In 1995, Greece lifted a 20-month trade embargo and the two countries agreed to normalize relations. The United States began referring to Macedonia by its constitutional name, Republic of Macedonia, in 2004 and negotiations continue between Greece and Macedonia to resolve the name issue, and to date, it has yet to be decided."

MACEDONIA COGIC "A Haven Of Hope Returns" Macedonia History In 1961, the "Man of God", Superintendent Dave Jones, Jr. was led of God to start his pastorship which under the leading of God, taking our name from the scripture founded the Macedonia Church of God in Christ. Macedonia's first house of worship was in an apartment on France and North Roman Street. As the ministry grew under the leadership of this praying and anointed man, in 1962 Macedonia moved to a Theater on Dauphine Street where it remained until 1963. As the Lord continued to bless our Pastor's ministry, in August 1963 - Pastor Jones was lead to a house located on 3015 Louisa Street. Once standing on grounds at this location, he was convinced in his spirit that this would be a "BLESSED SPOT” for Macedonia. Trusting and believing that this was God's leading that sent him to 3015 Louisa Street he purchased the property that we now stand on. Once purchasing the house and converting it into a church, God begin to show himself mightily in the community under the leadership of the "LITTLE MAN WITH THE BIG HANDS". People began to come, the house began to fill up and the power of God was falling. Macedonia remained in the rocking "LITTLE HOUSE" until 1965. After Hurricane Betsy, a larger Macedonia was built on the same spot of "blessed ground and again the house began to fill up. The members saw the need for a larger edifice and began to work, work and work. The property directly behind the church at 3015 Piety Street was purchased. A few years later the property adjacent to the church at 3015 Louisa Street was purchased from Deacon Lester and the late Georgina Ratliff. With the purchase of these two (2) pieces of property, the Pastor had a vision and the members wanted to see the Pastor's vision become a reality. With a united force, and all with the same mind, plans were made to expand as people were once again standing around the walls of Macedonia for Worship Service.
