Non-collinear magnetization structure at the thickness driven spin reorientation transition
in epitaxial Fe films on W(110) Phys. Rev. Let. 105 (2010) 027206
An in-plane spin reorientation transition (SRT) occuring during the growth of epitaxial Fe films on W(110) was studied in situ using the nuclear resonant scattering of synchrotron radiation. The SRT originates at the Fe/W(110)interface and proceeds via non-collinear spin structure resembling a planar domain wall that propagates towars the surface with increasing film thickness.

27. CGTalk - Real Electromagnetic Interactions?
Setting magnetism properties to objects so they behave like magnets-Creating electric and magnetic fields from electricity flowing through a wire and having objects react to them
http://forums.cgsociety.org/archive/index.php/t-201340.html
CGTalk Software Specific Forums Autodesk 3ds max PDA View Full Version : real electromagnetic interactions? sepulker 01-11-2005, 10:07 PM I want to create real electromagnetic interactions in 3dsmax, for example:
-Setting magnetism properties to objects so they behave like magnets
-Creating electric and magnetic fields from electricity flowing through a wire and having objects react to them
-Creating an actual physically correct inductive motor and animate it by using a current source
-Advanced light effects on the wave level, such as creating rainbow prism caustics for crystal-like materials.
So far I haven't found a way to do this, and I was wondering if any plugins exist. If not I would like to write them and have them work through Havoc's reactor.
Any thoughts? peekoot 01-11-2005, 10:45 PM -Advanced light effects on the wave level, such as creating rainbow prism caustics for crystal-like materials. -brazil glass material has dispersion controls... could be what you need
-Setting magnetism properties to objects so they behave like magnets-did you try writing a simple contraint based on Coulomb's law? i didn't try it, but i imagine it should not be too hard...
-Creating an actual physically correct inductive motor and animate it by using a current source
-sounds like bit more complex version of previous one... but similar in principle

  • Introduction
Iron is best known as the metal that gave us weapons and tools, and whose ability by means of alloys and heat treatment to suit itself to every application makes it the primary metal of technology. The purpose of this article, however, is principally to explain in some detail two remarkable applications of iron, ferromagnetism and oxygen transport in the blood. The very similar cobalt and nickel will also be included. Iron is the most freqently encountered metal in daily life, always in the form of manufactured objects, and usually covered with a protective coating or buried deep within the object. Concrete structures contain essential reinforcing iron; electrical machines, including transformers, depend on iron. Automobiles are mainly iron; "tin" cans are iron covered with thin coatings of tin or lacquer; fasteners, such as the nails and screws used in wooden construction, are usually iron. This list can easily be extended with a little thought. Iron is an excellent and versatile material of constructionstrong, tough, easily formed and worked, and, very importantly, cheap compared to the alternatives. Plastics give it competition, especially in products that must be manufactured at the lowest cost where strength and durability are not the primary concerns, such as modern American automobiles. Aluminium is a strong competitor where weight is a concern, as in aircraft. However, the versatility of iron-carbon alloys cannot be matched in any other material. Alloys with other metals, such as nickel, chromium and manganese, give further advantages. These

Welcome to the Science Department! Our department focuses on an active" hands on" approach to science. The Charles County Middle School Essential Curriculum is based on the Content Standards of the Voluntary State Curriculum for Science. The sixth grade students study geology: earth's structure, plate tectonics, seafloor, weathering, rock types, natural resources; meteorology: earth's atmosphere and hydrosphere, weather system, climate; astronomy; relationship between Earth, Moon and Sun; asteroids, comets, meteors, movement of objects in space.  Seventh graders study Life Science. They explore diversity of life, flow of matter and energy, ecology; genetics, body systems; cell biology; natural resources and human needs, environmental issues.  The focus for eighth graders is Physical Science. They will analyze mechanics, thermodynamics, wave interactions, electricity and magnetism, properties of matter, physical and chemical changes, classification and structure of matter. In the fall, students will participate in our school science fair. Click here for more

Gameplay screenshot. The game puts the player in the role of a marble , which is guided through a narrow winding course suspended in mid-air in five different environments: Skyworld, Iceworld, Caveworld, Cloudworld and Lavaworld. Using AGEIA as its core physics engine, the marble can be "morphed" into different balls with unique physical properties, like a Marble Ball, a Power Ball (which can be charged and have an accelerated "dash", a "jump" ability or switchable "magnetism" properties), a Steel Ball (which can push heavy objects around), and so forth. Each course contains obstacles and traps, such as wooden blocks, sheets of cloth, spinning fans, magnets, and cannons. The game utilizes physics-based puzzles as well, such as moving boxes or weighting ramps; also, different balls react to the environment; Steel Balls, for example, will tear cloth platforms.
