An easy 2 hour day trip from the Yakima Valley, or a great stop off Hwy 410 on your way to Yakima Valley Wine Country, Sunrise , on Mt. Rainer offers day hikes and an amazing viewpoint for watching the sun rise in the morning. At an elevation of 6,400 feet the trails meander above the tree line. Upon entering the National Forest about 2 miles off Hwy 410, you will receive maps of these trails The Sunrise Visitor Center is 14 winding miles from the entrance of the park and is open daily from early July to early October. The Sunrise Day Lodge is open until late September and offers food service and a gift shop, but no overnight lodging. The trail from the Sunrise Visitor Center parking lot leads the hiker up a moderately steep hill, which you can return by or choose to do a 1 mile loop. As you continue toward Frozen Lake you will see three Burrows Mountains. Sunrise Visitor Center in Dist ance In t he picture on the right three Burroughs are the three grey hills in fr ont of Mt. Hundreds of prehistoric insects and other creatures have been discovered in a large haul of amber excavated from a coalmine in western India. An international team of fossil hunters recovered 150kg of the dirty brown resin from Cambay Shale in Gujarat province, making it one of the largest amber collections on record. The tiny animals became entombed in the fossilised tree resin some 52m years ago, before the Indian subcontinent crunched into Asia to produce the Himalayan mountain range.
Jes Rust, a paleontologist at Bonn University, said the creatures, including ancient bees, spiders, termites, gnats, ants and flies, were in remarkably good condition considering their age. In total, the team has identified more than 700 arthropods, a group of animals that includes insects, crustaceans and arachnids.
"They are so well preserved. It's like having the complete dinosaur, not just the bones. You can see all the surface details on their bodies and wings. It's fantastic," Rust told the Guardian. The remains of two praying mantises were also found.
Insects and other small animals may be trapped in resin flowing down tree bark, or as it covers their dead bodies on the forest floor. Over time, the resin hardens into a translucent yellow material that preserves them.

Ice Age
An ice age is a period of long-term downturn in the temperature of Earth's climate, resulting in an expansion of the continental ice sheets, polar ice sheets and mountain glaciers ("glaciation"). Glaciologically Ice age is often used to mean a period of ice sheets in the northern and southern hemispheres; by this definition we are still in an ice age (because the Greenland and Antarctic ice sheets still exist). More colloquially, when speaking of the last few million years, ice age is used to refer to colder periods with extensive ice sheets over the North American and Eurasian continents: in this sense, the last ice age ended about 10,000 years ago. Many glacial periods have occurred during the last few million years, initially at 40,000-year frequency but more recently at 100,000-year frequencies. These are the best studied. There have been four major ice ages in the further past. Origin of ice age theory The idea that, in the past, glaciers had been far more extensive was folk knowledge in some alpine regions of Europe (Imbrie and Imbrie, p25, quote a woodcutter telling Jean de Charpentier of the former extent of the Swiss Grimsel glacier). No single person invented the idea. Between 1825 and 1833, Charpentier assembled evidence in support of the concept. In 1836 Charpentier convinced Louis Agassiz of the theory, and Agassiz published it in his book
