Governor O'Malley and Mayor Dixon Appoint Three Members to City Board of School Commissioners
Annapolis, MD (October 2, 2008) – Governor Martin O’Malley in conjunction with Baltimore City Mayor Sheila Dixon, announced the reappointment of Robert Heck and Anirban Basu, and the appointment of David Stone to the City Board of School Commissioners today. “I am proud to announce the reappointments of Mr. Heck and Mr. Basu, and the appointment of Mr. Stone to the Baltimore City Board of School Commissioners,” said Governor O’Malley.  “I am confident that these new Board Members possess the skill and the leadership necessary to ensure every child in Baltimore City receives the quality public education they deserve.” “I am very pleased with the new members of the Board of School Commissioners,” said Mayor Dixon.  “Our children are making great progress, and I believe these individuals will continue to ensure that every student in the city receives a quality education,” said Mayor Dixon.
Below is background information on the three appointees: 
Robert Heck– Robert Heck is a celebrated children’s television host for Maryland Public Television.  His 15 years in television have garnered him much acclaim, including 8 Capital Region Emmy Awards (NATAS- NCCB). His programs, designed for pre-school and elementary aged viewers with heavy focus on mathematics, reading, science, and technology, reinforce the joy of learning in children. He currently serves on the Board of the Baltimore Education Network, and as Roland Park Elementary/Middle School PTA’s Advocacy Committee Chair. He served on the Board of Governors of the National Academy of Television Arts and Sciences for three years. Mr. Heck graduated 2 children from the Baltimore City School System, and has served as a member of the school’s School Improvement Team (SIT), and eventually as President of the PTA.  Mr. Heck received his bachelor’s degree in Marketing from Fordham University in 1974.
