Date last edited Education - The Maryland Code The Maryland Code contains the laws passed by the legislature (the "General Assembly") and signed into law by the Governor. The Maryland Code is divided into "Articles," such as "Education." The Articles are divided into "Titles" and "Subtitles." At the smallest level, the Code is made up of "Sections," which are individual laws or portions of individual laws. The Education Article of the Maryland Code is divided into twenty-six Titles. At the elementary and secondary school levels, the most important parts of the Maryland Code are Title 2, "State Department of Education," Title 7, "Public Schools," and Title 8, "Special Programs for Exceptional Children." For career, college, and professional education, the most important parts are "Title 18, "Student Financial Assistance" and Title 21, "Career and Technology Education Programs." Albuquerque board buys land for charter
The Albuquerque Board of Education voted on Sept. 16 to fund the acquisition of the existing land and buildings and additional vacant land immediately to the north of the Montessori of Rio Grande Charter School.
This vote was the result of the work of so many parents, faculty, Council and friends from a local neighborhood association over a period of five years.
The board president especially cited the work of Principal Bonnie Dodge and the teachers in helping make this dream come true and open up significant opportunities for the school.
Sr. Anthonita Porta, 76, dies of aneurism
Long-time Montessori educator Sister Anthonita Porta died Sept. 9 of a ruptured aortic aneurism. She was 76.
Porta was celebrated as one of the most positive, amiable, humble and determined figures in the American Montessori community.
It opened with18 students and grew to about 190 students. She taught at the school for several years, then became the administrator. She soon began preparing teachers around the country and in 1990 started the Adrian Dominican Montessori Teacher Education Institute.

Medical Building set on fire
Was the intent to burn medical records? One more reason to ditch the paper files and back up your data...BD NORTH HOLLYWOOD, CA (AP) Police in North Hollywood arrested a man this morning on suspicion of setting fire to files in a medical building.
Police say the man fled officers responding to a burglar alarm at the building, but that he was quickly apprehended and found to be carrying a lighter.
Several medical files were found inside in flames.
