Howard County Maryland Was Established as a County 4 July 1851 being before then a part of Anne Arundel County. However in 1838 the Howard District of Anne Arundel County was established. This district became Howard County and from 1838 on it had some separate records apart from Anne Arundel County, such as mariage licenses. For the 1850 and earlier census you will need to look under Anne Arundel County. Before 1726 some portions of Howard County were a part of Baltimore County. For early research, you may need to check our Baltimore County genealogy page or more likely our Anne Arundel County Genealogy Page for the MDGenWeb project.

Volunteers Wanted!
The USGENWEB has several projects underway that are in need of volunteers. Two of these are the Tombstone Transcription Project and the Census Project . Volunteers are needed to record tombstone inscriptions and transcribe census records which will then be made available on line through the USGENWEB Archives. Montgomery County was established in 1776, from part of Frederick County, and it is important to many researchers across the country that these records be preserved and made available on line free of charge. To volunteer just follow one of the links in the text above and you will find the information on the respective pages.

    Welcome to Baltimore County, Maryland
A Proud part of the Genealogy Trails Group Hello and welcome to the Genealogy Trails website for Baltimore County.
Our goal is to help you track your ancestors through time by transcribing genealogical and historical data and placing it online for the free use of all researchers.
This website is in need of a dedicated host! This is a continuation of our original Illinois Genealogy Trails project and we are excited about this opportunity to expand into other states. We welcome your feedback and comments, and of course, your data contributions. We're looking for folks who share our dedication to putting data online and are interested in helping this project grow. If you think you might be interested in hosting a county website such as this one, please view the Volunteer Page for further informationand contact Kim
It should be noted that Baltimore County does not include the City of Baltimore, which was split off as an independent city in 1851.
The origin of Baltimore County is not known, the earliest known record of the county politically is January 12, 1659, when a writ was issued to its sheriff. Previously, Baltimore County was more known as a geographical entity than a political one, with its territorial limits consisting of the present day Baltimore City, Cecil and Harford Counties, as well as parts of Carroll, Anne Arundel, Frederick, Howard and Kent Counties.
