Sutton Massachusetts is a gorgeous, rural town located in south-central Massachusetts. We have several farms, two golf courses, and beautiful hiking trails. Come learn more about Sutton! Tragic News - 11/16/2010 6:31:40 AM Tragic news from Sutton MA - a 16 yr old Sutton resident, playing on Oxford's football team, collapsed on the field and died. The football game was being played in Warren. Sutton does not have solo-town football teams. The pop-warner team is teamed up with Millbury, and the teen football team is done with Oxford. I've read about the incident on several news websites now - the reports are all fairly vague. It does not seem that the student was tackled or injured, more that he collapsed "on his own" - but of course these things are difficult to tell. It could easily be that he was tackled or hurt earlier, and kept playing after that until he finally collapsed from the previous injury.  The name of the student is not being announced yet - only that he was a junior varsity player. Our thoughts go out to the family and friends of this young man.

Several other towns are honored by the same parentage; but Lynn seems always to have ranked as the most eminent of the beautiful offspring of that memorable settlement (Plymouth Plantation); and hence the whole Plantation is occasionally distinguished by her euphonious name. Located on a rocky peninsula jutting into Massachusetts Bay, it was first settled in 1630, and often used by citizens of Lynn for grazing cattle, sheep and goats. The first hotel was built in 1803, and in 1817 a steamboat ran daily between Boston and Nahant. The town was officially incorporated in 1853."

The town of Wenham, originally called Enon, was part of the first settlement in Essex County in 1628. Wenham, Beverly, Manchester, Marblehead, Danvers, Topsfield, and part of Lynn were originally part of Salem. It is about 20 miles north of Boston. It is bounded by Hamilton, Beverly, Danvers, and Topsfield.

First Church in Wenham was organized in 1644. There is some history on the church website at www.firstchurchwenham.org
    Cemeteries

The Wenham Cemetery is located on Route 1A, about half a mile from the center of town, next to the Wenham Golf Course. There are many very old gravestones in the front part of the cemetery, some recording deaths in the early 1700's. On June 22, 1996, the Massachusetts USGenWeb homepage was created as part of the USGenWeb Project. The purpose is to provide a single entry point for all counties and towns in Massachusetts, where collected data will be stored. At the same time, volunteers were found who were willing to coordinate the collection of databases and generally oversee the contents of the web page.
