  • ASIN: Book Description Here is the extraordinary story of the last and greatest native civilization of North America, at the height of its magnificence. It is a story told in the words of one of the most robust and memorable characters in modern fiction. His name is Mixtli-Dark Cloud. Rising above his lowly station, Mixtli distinguishes himself as a scribe and later a warrior. He earns a fortune as a traveling merchant, exploring every part of what the Aztecs called The One World-the far lands of mountains, jungles, deserts, seacoasts. Customer Reviews: Historical Pornography I don't consider myself a prude, but Jennings takes this guy's sexual exploits, and the Aztecs religious practices to places I don't want to go. Jennings dwells on the supposed deviant behaviour of the Aztecs; human sacrifices, every deviated sexual situation possible, live hearts being ripped out, limbs torn off, dismemberments, torture, etc. on and on, ad nauseum. If this is what the Aztecs were really like, we should be glad the Spaniards conquered them. I'm no Christian and the Spaniards likely were'nt saints when they imposed their religion on Mexico, but it had to be better than what went before, if this book has any basis in reality. Of course, it's fiction, and anything goes. That doesn't necessarily make for good writing or great authors, but I guess it sells books. I'd skip this one if I were you.

  • ASIN: Book Description The book begins with a treatment of the role of science and the nature of theory and research. A discussion of the early origins and history of organizational behavior follows. This is the most comprehensive coverage of how organizational behavior emerged and grew. It presents and evaluates the first generation theorists, whose work began during the first 20 years. The subject matter covered is motivation, leadership, and organizational decision making. The institutional culture of organizational behavior is discussed and a vision for the future of the field is stated. Here the early history and the evidence from the theories are brought together in an effort to assess the identity of organizational behavior and where it might be headed.

Wherever jaguars roamed, they became important deities and icons of power and status in the ancient civilizations of Central and South America.
    http://www.oneworldjourneys.com/jaguar/history.html
The ancient Maya developed advanced systems of astronomy and mathematics, an accurate calendar system, extensive trade routes, and a religion dominated by blood sacrifices. Without benefit of metal tools, beasts of burden, or even the wheel, they were still masters of architecture, building elaborate pyramids and sprawling cities. The collapse of these great cities is a mystery only now being explained, but the modern Maya remain tenacious survivors, like the jaguar itself, at the dawn of this new millennium. The ancient Maya lived in a vast area covering parts of present-day Guatemala, Mexico, Belize, and the western areas of Honduras and El Salvador. From the Pacific Ocean in the south, a narrow strip of coastal lowlands rises to a belt of mountains, active volcanoes, and highlands. Then the terrain drops onto limestone-based, flat lowlands in the central area all the way north to the Gulf of Mexico. Unlike the later Aztecs, the Maya had no central king ruling a vast empire. Instead, there were as many as 20 politically sovereign polities, similar to ancient Greece city-states. Each major city had its own ruler and noble class supported by tribute received from smaller cities and the surrounding farm villages.

THE MAYAS FROM THE ANCIENT EMPIRE
The origins of the oldest Mayan tribes get lost in the darkness of leyends. The XVI century indian manuscripts have lost all historical rememberance of the primitive Mayan geographic localization, be it wizard books or Chilam Balam writen in the Yucatan Peninsula, Mani, Chumayel, etc., or the quiches' Popol Vuh, a branch from the Mayan trunk, writen in Guatemala. Nor does the only Mayan primitive narrator, fray Diego de Landa, who wrote by 1566, keep a clear tradition to that respect. In any case all the information refers to the Mayas in Yucatan, of the so called New Empire, and not to the old Mayas who lived in the south (Chiapas, Guatemala, and Honduras), whose civilization had extinguished some centuries before the peninsular cities reached their fullness, Chichen Itza, Uxmal, and Sayil. We know that in a very remote time, the Mayas lived on the Atlantic shore of Mexico, from where they decended to Central America going along the Usumacinta to reach the Peten. An old Mayan group, the Huasteco, was left on the extreme north of Mexico, on the Veracruz-Tamaulipas kidney. Maybe the Nahua drive cut in two the Mayan people and displaced some groups to the north and some to the south. The groups displaced to the south were the ones who developed in all its splendour the Mayan civilization. In the beginings of their historical times they lived in a Palenque triangle, in Chiapas; Uaxactun, in Guatemala; and Copan in Honduras; this being a very ample and difficult to access jungle area, crossed by large rivers, which comprehends all of the Usumacinta valley, the Guatemalan Peten and the Motagua valleys and the Copan river.
