Spring has sprung!
Filed under Beach Metal Detecting by Mark 1 Comment After the lousy long winter that we had here in Florida, the warmer weather is most certainly welcome.  We had almost three solid months of cold weather that did not get over the mid sixtys. That is not what is expected in Florida. It must be all that global warming that we keep hearing about. Make sure your detector is primed and ready because the beaches are filling up quickly and you know what that means. With people swimming and playing at the beach there are always things that will be lost.  You had better make sure that your metal detector is in prime working condition and ready to pinpoint all of that gold that will soon be lost.
Sea Monster Washes Ashore on Florida Beach
Filed under Beach Metal Detecting Metal Detecting Finds by Mark Comment There have been hundreds of sea turtles that have been found as well. It kind of sucks and to top it all off, while I was hunting among all of the death I find my first crematory tag.  WTF? I pitched it back into the ocean as far as I could. It just goes to show that you never know what will turn up on the beach!

This is my hobby, metal detecting, I hope you enjoy it. Thanks for checking it out. Metal detecting to me is a very fun hobby. It is a hobby that you can do alone or with a friend, and the best part of it is that you never know what's going to come out of the ground. Dear visitor,
welcome to this website. It describes the thrill of private archaeology using a metal detector, shortly called metal detecting. The searches took place in Central Europe, especially in Bavaria, southern Germany.
    Author with metal detector
Over the years I have found many historical places and items ranging from Roman coins and fibulas to a cannon ball of Napoleon to cached rifles of World War 2
Unlike other private metal detecting websites this one is not merely a collection of finds. Here the detector is used as a tool for an archaeological prospection. Finds are mapped and conclusions are drawn from the find distribution pattern, similar to a crime scene investigation. This is described in multi page search reports providing maps and background information.
Besides description of my own finds and searches various articles concerning miscellaneous topics related to the treasure hunting and history riddles are included.

    Metal Detecting Findings
Here you will see stuff found with a Bounty Hunter Pioneer 202 (can be bought at Walmart) metal detector which I have been able to borrow for the fall season of 2005. I am not ready to buy my own metal detector yet as I need to know if I will use it, enjoy it and even possibly make a metal detector pay for it's self (with "lost treasures"). I think I will enjoy seeking out old lost coins the most, I used to collect coins as a kid. Here is what I found on August 16th, 2005 in my front yard. The 1923(S mint) Liberty Peace silver dollar coin was a nice find (only valued at about $10, but hey, its my first find)! The clad coins ( clad is a term used to describe newer change/coinage that was lost and found in the ground, often a bit corroded or damaged, might as well take it to a store and spend it...) consist of a 25c, 2@10c and 3@1cents. I still have a lot of ground to cover in our front yard alone, I only looked around our bush at our front window so far, spent maybe about an hour to find these "treasures", WOOHOO! Above is my metal detecter findings for Aug. 17th, 2005. Found: 1954 silver US quarter, 1938 5 centigos (mexico? silver?), 1930 wheat penny, 1945 wheat penny, 1929 wheaty, 1919 wheaty, and a bunch of crappy clads: 1970 25 cents, 3 dimes (1984, 1975, 1969), 5 pennies (1982D, 1980, 1976, 1981, 1968). This change (coins) was found in my front yard in about 2 hours.

    Two Guys Look'in For Stuff
Edition 2 Basic Metal Detector Operation
In this issue we will be going over the basics of metal detector operation. The information in this article is for those who are contemplating purchasing a metal detector for the first time and for those who are still learning how to operate their metal detector. Since this article is only on the basics and the VLF type of metal detector is the most popular among enthusiasts that is the type we will be discussing here. A VLF metal detector can also distinguish between different types of metals due to phase shifting. Phase shifting is the difference in timing between the frequency in the transmitter coil and the frequency of the target object. Phase shifting is the result of inductance and resistance. Inductance is how easily an object conducts electricity. Most metals are highly inductive. Resistance is how much an object resists the flow of electricity through it. Most metals have a low resistance. As a result of this, objects that are made of metal will have a low resistance and a high inductance, which results in a large phase shift. The size of the phase shift is how a VLF metal detector can determine what type of metal the object in the ground is made of. The discrimination and ground balance circuits use these signals by comparing them against the control set points and tells the how to respond. If a metal object is detected in the ground your detector will respond favorably with an either an audio or a visual signal, or with both. When you receive a favorable signal, use it as a guideline only. This is where experience with your detector comes into play. The more you use your detector, the better the feel you will have for it. The reason for using the signals as a guideline are that smaller objects also have weaker magnetic fields and it is possible that what your detector says is 6 inches deep could only be 2 or 3 inches deep.
