The faith was originated with Reverend John Wesley's evangelistic revival movement in the Church of England also known as the Anglican Church. The Methodist branch of protestant religion traces its roots back to 1739. While studying at Oxford, Wesley, his brother Charles, and several other students formed a group devoted to study, prayer and helping the underprivileged. They were labeled "Methodist" by their fellow students because of the way they used "rule" and "method" to go about their religious affairs. His younger brother Charles wrote most of the hymns of the Methodist Church. George Whitefield, another significant leader in the movement, was known for his unorthodox ministry of open air services Wesley, along with his brother and Whitefield, were branded as "Methodist" by opposing clergy within the Church of England.

Methodist Articles of Religion
General Information The Articles of Religion is a term commonly used for the standards of doctrine of the United Methodist Church. The Articles stem from the abridgment of the Thirty-nine Articles of the Church of England prepared by John Wesley for use in the American Methodist Episcopal Church organized in 1784; Wesley reduced the Thirty-nine Articles to twenty-four. The organizing conference added a twenty-fifth article (Article 23) outlining the church's relationships with the newly formed American government. This article replaced Article XXXVII of the Book of Common Prayer, a statement of the authority of the British monarch over the church, which Wesley had wisely omitted from his list. BELIEVE

Methodist Articles of Religion
General Information Editor's Note: The article above appears to specifically refer to the Methodist Churches in the United States. It appears that in Great Britain, three branches of the Methodist Church united into the Methodist Church of Great Britain and Ireland in 1932, and those Churches adopted "The doctrinal standards of the Methodist Church" at that time. This is significant because many of the Methodist Churches in Africa, South America, the Caribbean and Asia were at that time "Overseas Districts" of the British Methodist Conference and that Methodists in South Africa, Australia, Canada and New Zealand also took their lead from the UK. When these churches became autonomous, the Doctrinal Standards were pretty much universally carried forwards and therefore, this document has much wider influence than might at first appear.

Lent Latin Quadragesima Spanish Cuaresma Hebrew ‎) in the Western Christian tradition , is the period of the liturgical year leading up to Easter . The traditional purpose of Lent is the preparation of the believer — through prayer penitence almsgiving and self-denial — for the annual commemoration during Holy Week of the Death and Resurrection of Jesus , which recalls the events linked to the Passion of Christ and culminates in Easter, the celebration of the Resurrection of Jesus Christ Conventionally, it is described as being forty days long, though different denominations calculate the forty days differently. The forty days represent the time that, according to the Bible Jesus spent in the desert before the beginning of his public ministry , where he endured temptation by Satan This practice was virtually universal in Christendom until the Protestant Reformation Some Protestant churches do not observe Lent, but many, such as

The Calvinistic Methodist Religion is a group of Christians who form the Presbyterian Church of Wales and claim to be the only Presbyterian denomination in Wales which is of pure Welsh origin. The church originated in the late 17th and early 18th century and was founded by Reverend Griffith Jones who was in striking contrast to the apathetic clergy of the period. He was a powerful orator and truly cared bout the plight of the poor. Men by the names of Harris and Rowland became supplicants of Jones and they continued on with Jones ministry. However Harris and Rowland disagreed on a doctrinal point “Did God die on Calvary” and it opened in a split in 1751 which lasted until 1762. The Calvinist Methodist Religion was known for it’s missionary zeal and the missionary collections of the denomination were given to the London Missionary Society from 1798 to 1840, when a Connexional Society was formed. The missionary enterprises were centred in the Khasia and Jainta Hills and the Plains of Sylhet in northern India. There has also been a missionary in Brittany since 1842.
