The county is located close to the geographic center of the lower peninsula of Michigan. While primarily rural in nature, Isabella County is also noted for it's oil and gas production and the manufacturing of machinery for industry, food service and wood products. Mt. Pleasant is the county seat and also the home of Central Michigan University and the Clarke Historical Library, the second largest genealogy and historical library in the state. Central Michigan University was opened in 1893 as the Central Normal School and Business Institute. The school was operated by the city of Mt. Pleasant until 1895 when it was taken over by the State of Michigan and became Central Michigan Normal School. CMU became a four year institution in 1918 and a university in 1959. The county also encompasses the Saginaw Chippewa Indian Reservation, home of the Soaring Eagle Casino. Act of the State Legislature Establishing Isabella County

Welcome to "Jackson County Michigan" Birthplace of the Republican Party Hi, my name is Jan Stypula , and I am the host for Jackson County Michigan. I grew up in Jackson County and a portion of my family has been in the area since the 1830's. I will be adding information to the website as I can find it and get it transcribed. Your Jackson County family information is very important to all researchers, and I hope you will consider contributing it. Biographies, Obituaries, Family Stories, County and Township Histories, Photos, whatever you have, will be appreciated, and used in a free and open way and attributed to you. Anything else you might find hidden away could break down somebody's brick wall. If you have books or CD's you could send me I'll do my best to get them transcribed. We do this because we are a totally free, not for profit organization, dedicated to the promotion of "Free Genealogical and Historical Information". WE REGRET THAT WE ARE UNABLE TO DO PERSONAL RESEARCH FOR YOU, BUT WE ARE CONTINUALLY ADDING NEW DATA. So bookmark us and check back often Information and County data will be posted as fast as it comes to me.

    Michigan History and Genealogy
Michigan Genealogy is being developed as a genealogical and historical resource for your personal use. While the original thought was to provide this website as a resource for finding genealogy and historical data concerning Michigan on the web, we have begun adding specific data to this site for your personal use. In an attempt to further expand our offerings and refine your search, we have begun the creation of county websites. Those county sites can be found in the list of links to the right. While only a small portion of Michigan counties are presently listed, the amount of data for those counties is quite impressive. The "Search Michigan Genealogy" search on the right side will search all of the Michigan Genealogy website, but will not search the data linked to from our offsite data pages. Remember Me Home Michigan Genealogy! - Discover Your Family A Family Journey I started my own personal genealogy journey after I had the Faded Footsteps website built. I became curious about the veterans I was placing onto my website and looked at a Family Genealogy book my Aunt Lucille put together back in the 1970’s. I have had this book for decades myself and never knew the treasures that were inside the pages. Every time I look at his book (Our family calls it “The Pink Book”), I say a prayer of thanks to Aunt Lucille and the family members who helped her create the book. My discovery through the book led me to find that my Great-great-Grandfather Edward Cole fought in the Civil War in the 13th Michigan. I joined the Sons of the Union Veterans as a descendant of Edward Cole . After a while I needed to know more and I sought out my roots in Wexford County as this is where I thought my family was from.
