Unlike many other states it is impossible to teach in Michigan unless you have a college degree, unlike many states that have different routes for future teachers, Michigan does not. In order to become a teacher there you have to go through and complete a teacher education program, which includes receiving a Michigan teacher certification. Once you have received your Michigan teacher certification it will be valid from 5-6 years, when the sixth year is up it is mandatory for re-certification in order to ensure that nothing is forgotten during the six years that no classes have to be taken. In addition to general knowledge about teaching as well as the subject you are teaching it is mandatory for teachers in Michigan to take courses in abuse as well as CPR and first aid so that if anything were to happen they would know what to do. Although we live in a very safe country there are still chances that something bad may happen and when you are a teacher you not only have to take care of yourself when something happens, but you also have to take care of the entire class of children.
