Military Schools What Military Schools Have to Offer Military Schools General Rules These types of schools all have very strict guidelines that must be followed, no exceptions. Most schools start at 6 am sharp, and all cadets are expected to be in formation fully dressed in their uniforms, with their boots polished. Girls that are in a military school are not allowed to wear bright nail polish, or lots of makeup. Their hair has to be either put up in buns, or cut above the collar of their uniforms. Most military schools will have their cadets called to formation before allowing them to have their meals. Privileges are earned in a military school, if you want something you have to work for it. If a cadet wants to play a video game or go to town on the weekend, they have to earn this privilege. To earn these privileges, a cadet has to earn rank; you give nothing, you get nothing. Military schools do not allow any types of misbehaving, this includes fighting, the use of any drug, or sexual activities either in the school or when on leave to go into town. Being able to work together as a team is a requirement that is necessary from every cadet in a military school. Military Schools Not for Everyone

Military Schools Overview
Military Schools have long been considered for providing discipline, hard work, and teamwork, to struggling or unmotivated teens. Although after further review of military schools, it will be shown that military schools are effective in very few situations where the purpose for enrolment is to provide discipline and an atmosphere condusive for positive change.
Military Schools are typically privately owned and operated prep schools modeled after the United States military based colleges and universities, such as West Point.
Typical Military Cadet
Although there are obviously cadets that don’t fit the profile, most military school students are self -motivated, obedient, desire careers in the military (typically as officers), and are typically good students as well. Many Military Schools offer either boarding or stay at home enrolment. Most of the more reputable Military Schools have been established for long periods of time, So if your son fits the above profile and is looking to enroll at a “Traditional Military School” it would be wise to find out how long the school has been in operation for. Furthermore most of these more reputable Military Schools are deeply rooted in tradition thus further enhancing the student’s learning and experience.

Military Schools for Troubled Teenagers
The public school system of today is not fully equipped to handle troubled teenagers. Often times, parents turn to military schools as an option to discipline and educate their troubled teenagers. Military schools , which seemed headed for extinction in the late 1960s and early '70s, have seen enrollments increase steadily in recent years. Many military schools are jammed to capacity and sport long waiting lists, as anxious parents scramble for slots.
This website will give more information about military schools as an option for troubled teens as well as other alternatives for troubled teens. There is also history of military schools and general information about military schools.

Directory Top Categories Featured Schools Boarding School Articles Boarding School Guide Military Schools For much of American history, military schools were prestigious institutions that trained young men for entrance into West Point, the Air Force Academy or Annapolis. During the Viet Nam era, these programs fell out of favor as the military came under popular criticism and as the culture moved into an era of individualism and self-expression. Today there has been a reaction to that era, and military schools are coming back into favor. Many Americans are placing new value on the traditional character virtues that these schools teach: selflessness, honesty, patriotism, discipline, duty, respect for authority, and self-sacrifice for a greater good. Many military schools are responding by shifting their focus from training young men to be soldiers to training students for leadership positions in both military and civilian life. A few even admit girls. PROS
If a young person is already certain he or she wants a career in the military, a military high school can provide a path to either an officer's commission or an appointment to one of the three U.S. military academies.

    Military Schools
KING GEORGE ROYAL INDIAN MILITARY SCHOOL/COLLEGE(KGRIMC),as these schools were previously known, were established by the British government out of the patriotic fund instituted by the KING GEORGE V and KING GEORGE VI with a view to provide education to the son of defence personnel and to prepare them for careers in the ARMED FORCES.
The son's of officers, both KCIO's and ICO's were not eligible for admission to these schools. In 1944 these schools were raised to the status of colleges.
With the end of world war II two more KGRIMC's were started ,one at BELGAUM (karnataka) in the year 1945 and other at BANGALORE(karnataka) in the following year.
After the independence these schools were called KING GEORGE'S MILITARY SCHOOL(KGMS's).After the partition of India in 1947,the school at Jhelum went to Pakistan. The school was first shifted to NAOGONG(Madhya Pradesh) and later to CHAIL(Shimla Hills,Himachal Pradesh) and one more school was started at DHOLPUR(Rajasthan) in 1962.To fall in line with the requirements and challenges,KGMS's were reorganised as residential public schools in 1952 on the recommendation of KUNZRU commitee and were renamed as only MILITARY SCHOOLS(MS) in the same year.
Prior to the conversion of these schools into military schools, the entitled students were sponsered by the regimental centres concerned,i.e student's father's regiment. This system is still prevalent. However,on becoming Military Schools, the son's of defence officers and civilians became entitled for the admission as "paying students".The scope and curriculum were suitably modified. These schools were affiliated to the University of Cambridge and the boys were prepared for the senior cambridge certificate. On reorganization, these schools were known as KING GEORGE'S SCHOOLS(KGS).In view of the change in the educational scenario they were affiliated to Central Board of Secondary Education(CBSE,NEW DELHI) .In 1962 the KGS's were redesignated as MILITARY SCHOOLS and hence the individual schools assumed their present names i.e

Considering military schools for your troubled teen? If you are a parent struggling with a pre-teen or adolescent child due to problems with behavior, academics, or emotional issues, you may have thought about or threatened to send your teenager to military school. It's important for parents to examine the purpose of military schools to decide whether this is the best choice for a struggling adolescent. If your teen needs therapy or has special academic needs due to learning challenges or disabilities, other residential programs may be a better choice Many military schools will explicitly state in their admissions policies that they are not a therapeutic school and will not accept students with behavioral or substance abuse problems. Who are they for? Students who succeed in the military school environment tend to be under performing academically (below potential) due to issues other than learning challenges or disabilities. In other words, students who have developed poor study habits or have lost interest in school, but do not have underlying learning challenges such as attention deficit hyperactivity disorder.

    Alternatives to Military School
Can Military Schools Really Help Your Troubled Teen?
    Military Schools
Traditional military schools and military high schools are generally boarding schools with the elements of military training and discipline underlying the basic structure of the program. Students complete academic requirements for graduation while partaking in physical activities such as marching, survival skills, obstacle courses, and military-style parades. Military-style discipline is enforced. In other words, "Yes Sir. No Sir" and a highly structured environment. Negative or willful behavior is met with various consequences, some of which may be physical in nature (e.g., running, push ups). There is a strong honor code at military schools and there are many rules and requirements for successful attendance. Although a somewhat willful or disruptive student may "get in line" at military schools, adolescents with more serious behavioral or emotional issues often do not fare well in military schools. Because the focus is on discipline rather than therapy, students in need of the latter type of intervention often do not succeed in this environment. Some will be expelled; others will struggle to perform at the minimum level and scrape by, never actually dealing with the fundamental core issues of their self-defeating behaviors.
