Fulton, Missouri
The story of the growth of Fulton, Missouri from a lonely homestead in the wilderness to a thriving small city is captured in rare old photographs from the archives of the Kingdom of Callaway Historical Society and transcribed articles from local newspapers and other contemporary sources. Articles and stories arranged chronologically carry the reader through the lawlessness of a frontier town where every store had a whiskey barrel for customers and the town doctor could walk into a hardware store and shoot the school teacher without any apparent regrets or repercussions. The book covers the upheaval and discord of the Civil War era, including the well-known story of Celia, a Slave, the fast paced changes of the industrial revolution and the Great War that took so many Callaway boys far away from the mule trading capital of the world and introduced them to tanks and flying machines.

The society was formed in July of 2000. We grew to fifty members by the December meeting. The need for a genealogy society was great and Jeanette Henson McClure decided it was time to organize a local Iron County Genealogy Society. Her efforts have been a success. Membership is $15.00 per year, you get a membership card, and a monthly newsletter. Meetings are held the first Tuesday of each month at the Ozark Regional Library in Ironton, Missouri, at 7 P.M. Executive board meetings are held on the last Tuesday of each month. Newsletters are published monthly and are full of great information. Any member wishing to place queries, advertise a publication, or other information pertaining to genealogy can mail these items to publicatons and they will be printed as space allows. Enjoy our web pages and feel free to contact us with comments and suggestions to President Jeanette Henson McClure, Publications Sharon Hackworth.
