42. Admission To Teacher Education Programs
Missouri Teacher Certification Requirements. Upon completion of Southeast's Teacher Education Program individuals are eligible to be recommended for a Missouri Teaching Certificate.

A dmission to Teacher Education Programs
To be eligible for credit in professional education courses applied toward an Education degree (BSE, BSFCSE, BME) or a teaching certificate, students must apply to and be approved by the Committee on Admission to and Retention in Teacher Education Programs. Students should apply for admission to teacher education immediately prior to enrollment in Block II in Scully 304. The student may not take Elementary Block II, Secondary Block II, or succeeding professional education courses without being admitted to teacher education. The Committee on Admission to and Retention in Teacher Education Programs is required to certify that every teacher candidate meets certain specified criteria which satisfy accrediting agencies, regulations, and state law. To be admitted to the program, the student must:
  • 1. have a 2.5 cumulative grade point average; 2. attain 57 hours

    • A valid Missouri teacher's certificate and two years of classroom teaching experience. Professional Requirements* (these shall be met by courses of at least two semester hours, unless otherwise specified, with no grade lower than a "C").

  • Child Psychology** Adolescent Psychology** Psychology and/or Education of the Exceptional Child (including the Gifted) Evaluation of Abilities and Achievement (instruction in interpretation of individualized intelligence tests, formal and informal diagnostic procedures and in prescriptive instruction [RDG 670]
  • B. Teaching Methods
  • Reading (at least three courses required, minimum total of 12 semester hours, one of these courses shall be in Analysis and Correction of Reading Disabilities [RDG 574] Language Acquisition and Development or Language Development of the Exceptional Child (RDG 675) Behavior Management Techniques Counseling Techniques (to include communication skills with exceptional children and families of exceptional children)
