Considering the advancements in design technology and production a model enthusiast can acquire practically any type of model that they may be interested in. Models come in a wide range replication of real world styles and many different scale sizes. Models can be purchased in plastic, wood, foam, and even metal.
Before beginning to build models you want to be sure you have a work space large enough to build your model comfortably. Keep in mind that as you build you will need space to let painted and glued parts dry while you continue working on assembling other pieces and parts. You should also have a chair that you can sit in comfortably, as well as a light that will allow to easily see what you are doing.
Model building requires a great deal of concentration and attention to detail. This is another reason why the location of your work area is important. Many modelers have an area in their garage or have a hobby room specifically for their

Model building (particle physics)
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia Jump to: navigation search This article needs attention from an expert on the subject . See the talk page for details. WikiProject Physics or the Physics Portal may be able to help recruit an expert. (November 2008) In particle physics , the term model building refers to a construction of new quantum field theories beyond the Standard Model that have certain features making them attractive theoretically or for possible observations in the near future. If the model building physicist uses the tools of string theory, he or she is called "superstring model builder". A model builder typically chooses new quantum fields and their new interactions, attempting to make their combination realistic, testable and physically interesting. In particular, an interesting new model should address questions left unanswered in the Standard Model which has, including three massive neutrinos, 28 free parameters. A model which extends the Standard Model should predict one or more of these parameters or shed light on some other issue such as why there are three quark-lepton families or, the most common motivation, the naturalness or hierarchy problem associated with the quadratic divergences appearing in the scalar sector.

The critical step in QSAR modeling is the selection of appropriate modeling algorithm, the parameters for the algorithm and training the models. A wide range of algorithms have been employed by modelers, the choice of them depends largely on the data that is being modeled. Sarchitect comes with the state-of-the-art in modeling algorithms. It has a large collection of algorithms for building classification and regression models. For classification models
  • Decision Trees Neural Networks SVM Decision Forests
For regression models

1.) The much misunderstood and over used term "model" is used in the field of remote sensing to refer to a series data transformations steps which will result in a new image that depicts or estimates the desired outcome. That is to say, that most "remote sensing" models are deterministic (a model in which there are no random events) and have the goal of data reduction, calibration, or estimation. Begin by creating a very simple model. First select the MODELER icon from ERDAS icon menu The following menus will be displayed. Select the Model Maker option (2) Drag the modeling "objects" from the tool bar on the left into the modeling window. Include the arrows that connect the objects Now double click on the "input image object" in the upper left (or click once and then select the properties from the edit menu). The dialog box will be displayed which can define that model object. Provide the file name for the input image (pnw98_bbc.img). Go ahead and define the "output image object" in the lower right. Give it any name you wish (remember to direct the output to the sub-directory you want). Now double click on the "function model object" (the circle in the middle). This object allows you to define the transformation process for this step in the model. We'll do something very simple. Divide band 4 of the input image by band 3.

Model building Tips
Busted!! Several of my brushes had disappeared, eventually found stashed under the couch! This section is dedicated to the basics of plastic model building. There are many websites out there devoted to models, but most are just galleries of completed work. They're great for giving you ideas about what you'd like to do, but not much help when you need to improve your own results. If you're just getting started or want to pick up a few tips, perhaps something here will help.
When reading the instructions and recommended tools listed in these pages, keep in mind the age of the potential model builder. A sharp exacto knife is standard equipment for working on these models, but for a pre-teenage child such a tool is dangerous. This is a great hobby to introduce to your children, but adult supervision and help is necessary. Consider it a chance to spend some quality time with your kid. Learning how to build a model kit teaches a child patience, planning, and hand-eye coordination. Don't expect a child just learning to enjoy the frustration of trying and failing to build a model too advanced for their experience, but on the other hand you want them to be challenged and not every model has to come out "perfect". I've never seen a model yet where I couldn't find something about it to praise, even if it's just that they managed to finish it. One last point: While I've tried to anticipate and cover all the basic questions people have when learning how to work with plastic, glue, and paint, this should be considered a starting point only in learning the hobby. Feel free to email me with requests for additional information, and if I don't know the answer I can point you to people who will. There are other model builders on the net who will be happy to give their own answers and recommendations - you won't find a more helpful group of folks anywhere. One place I highly recommend is the Polar Lights Bulletin Board at

Model Building Written by Scott Martin Model building is a way to quantitatively represent the relationships between parts of a system, process, or topical area. There are two main types of modelsdescriptive and predictive. A descriptive model design is used to help understand processes and behaviors. On the other hand, a predictive model is an attempt to foresee unknown values based upon known information.
Model Building in Science
Models are constructed and used by many different disciplines. In the natural sciences, models are often used to predict future occurrences. One of the most visible models has to do with weather predictions, such as hurricane warnings or anticipated rainfall. In the social sciences, model designs are often used to describe and predict individual and group behavior. Model building is based around theoretical constructs that have observable indicators. These indicators are quantified and then entered into a statistical software package in order to test the relationship of variables in the model. Models are a fundamental way of trying to understand the world and play an integral in science. Establishing sound theory based and testable models is critical in many research fields. A statistician can help with your model building and design effective ways to test it.

If you consider building a model of a paddlewheel steamboat, think of doing a lot by yourself. There are only very few steamboat model kits around, the most accurate but also the most expensive one being the SAITO model kit of the Delta Queen ) and Alan L. Bates ( Alan Bates Steamboat Plans ), including books and model plans. If you're not passionate enough to spend hundereds if not thousands of hours for a well sized model, probably even remote controllable, consider a plastic or paper model. You can improve these models, too, to be more authentic. It just doesn't cost as much time as a "real" model boat. We do have a website (sorry, only in German language) with long lists of model building resources specifically for steamboat and paddlewheeler models. including sources for model kits, plastic models, paper models, model plans and books: www.steamboats.de
