Last update: 08 Aug 08 Here is a listing of the models I have built, am working on or have planned as future projects. Each project has (or will have) an area devoted to it's construction on this web site. I have given each project a large area to help me better explain in detail how I have completed each project. There are a few projects were I did an in-depth review of the kit. In these cases, I am in no way affiliated with the company who manufactures the kit, nor was I paid for my review. My reviews are of my own opinion based on over 26 years in modeling. I have been asked about Navy ships verses the other types of ships I model. When it comes to R/C model boats, I like the scale boats and ships and tend to stay away from the speed demons. Not all of the models that I build are military in nature. Really! Often I am taken by a ship for one reason or another and then I end up wanting to model it. Even though they may not be a "gray thing", they are still a scale model ship or boat. A likeness of the real thing in miniature. Ah, now that's scale modeling.
A new Discussion Board has been set up!!! Everyone is welcome to log in and try it out. I still have a few bugs to work out yet. You can log in by using the link below:

82. MODEL BUILDING
Any good project begins with a plan and digital model building is no exception. Whenever possible I work from actual blueprints and a variety of different plans.

MODEL BUILDING "If you wanna see it, you gotta build it....." Any good project begins with a plan and digital model building is no exception. Whenever possible I work from actual blueprints and a variety of different plans. Considerable time goes into researching the subject and compiling photographs prior to construction to insure that the model is accurate in every detail. The plans are then scanned into the computer where they are used as a background template and the model begins. If it's for motion picture work, the model has the advantage of movement to hide occasional imperfections. When it's for still frame art, the model has to hold up to closer scrutiny and therefore requires far more detail. . It begins with points. The atom of the virtual world. Placed to align over the various cross sections of the plan. Only working on half of the model, the half gets "mirrored" later. . The points are connected and transformed into a spline. A frame in which the computer will lay out the polygons like a web. . Polygons form the skin of the model. They are assigned surface properties, such as transparency or smoothness. Later you apply texture maps to the surface like a paint job

Electric Flight- What a nice way to fly! Model electric aircraft plans and information on a building slow flyer, speed 400, speed 600 etc models and gliders. Details on building a foam hot wire cutter and the making of wing core templates. How to use the foam hot wire cutter and techniques for cutting delta wings. A good range of downloadable CAD drawings in DXF and DWG format (See list below). Slow flyer building instructions including DXF plans for the wing and fuselage and numerous photos to aid in construction . Material list and links to instructions on how to apply tissue coverings for extra light finishes. Spread sheet flight performance calculators in excel format. These are simple to use and provide very useful information from wing loading, power consumption estimations in watts and amps, and potential climb rates, etc. You don't have to include every detail like prop pitches or gear box ratios. It's made simple to give general results that help in designing models. A scaling spread sheet allows you to copy models from review articles without plans (as long as there are suitable side and top photos of the model). The site contains other various topics, some of these mentioned below:

Nice, France,

10 -12 September

EUROPEAN CONFERENCES ON
PRODUCT AND PROCESS MODELING IN THE BUILDING INDUSTRY ECPPM The series of conferences was initiated by Prof. Raimar Scherer in 1994 as a joint initiative of several European research projects related to construction information technology. It is closely tied to the European Association of Product and Process Modeling EAPPM In an interval of two years, these conferences bring together the academia, research, construction industry, software and Web developers to the topic of information management in the building and construction industry. In spite of new information technologies appearing so frequently, the analysis and modeling of the information, the products of the industry and the processes in which they are designed and built, remains very important. Traditionally strong at ECPPM has been an overview of the EU research projects and the participation of experts from the EU. In spite of its name, the conferences have been open and have attracted numerous researchers from overseas. Conferences:
  • : Dresden, Germany.
  • 100. The Hobby Stop
