Does the Saudi National Curriculum Teach Global History
The present study tried to find out whether the Saudi history textbooks for grades 4-12 contain global themes, in which grade levels global themes are introduced; the percentage of global history themes, local history themes and Islamic history themes; and which global history themes are taught. A checklist of global history themes was developed. A content analysis of the history textbooks for grades 4-7 was carried out. It was found that 68.5% of the themes in the nine history textbooks in Saudi Arabia were Islamic, 30% were local (focusing on Saudi history), and only 1.5% were global. It was concluded that global history is completely ignored in the Saudi national history curriculum for grade 4-12. Therefore, this study recommends that Saudi history books be reviewed and re-structured and global history themes are added.

Sex Education: How Do They Do It In Holland? Pt 1
Click the play icon to start the video. Please be patient while your media loads. Teenagers in Holland practise safe sex and less than one per cent of them get pregnant every year compared to six per cent in England. Can the Dutch approach to sex education take the credit? Much of the country's success can be attributed to the Dutch culture of tolerance and pragmatism which allows children to talk openly about sexuality with their parents at home. Helping to keep the teenage pregnancy rate low are Holland's sex education teachers who, because they are not bound by a national curriculum, teach sex in very different ways. In Amsterdam's Lyceum, biology teacher Ruud Winkel discusses sexuality by getting his students to question each other from specially prepared cards. Like many teachers in Holland, Ruud's approach is direct and informal. But, according to Yuri Ohlrichs at the Dutch Sexuality Centre, not all in children in this multicultural society have the experience of being spoken with so explicitly. Search Menu Partner Sites
