BILL SOZA WARSOLDIER
Oil Painting from the Aspen Wolf series Bill Soza Warsoldier
(Soboba Band of Cahuilla Indians/White Mountain Apache), is one of the primary catalysts for a change which would make all of us "never look at Indian Art the same way again." His work has a sophisticated starkness which almost forces an observer to be aware of the truths he talked about as a young man, and of which he talks of now. Please contact the Sherman Indian Museum for exhibit days and times. (951)276-6719. Visit warsoldierartwork.com for more information.

Chief Pontiac first class Native American General Chief Pontiac tried to organize First Nations from East to West to evict the Europeans from the Americas
    http://www.danielnpaul.com/ChiefPontiac-Ottawa.html
    Home Ottawa Chief Pontiac
Photo: Courtesy of the Smithsonian, National Museum of the American Indian Pontiac, born on the Maumee River, was the son of an Ottawa father and an Ojibway mother. By 1765 he had become a chief with great power of organization. He traveled widely urging the Indians to organize and remove the Europeans, he likely fought against Braddock in 1755. With his Ottawas, Ojibways and Pottawaton, he formed his conspiracy to overthrow the English rule by taking their forts. He almost successed. Forts Michellimackinac, Sandusky, Miami, Ouitanon, Presque Isle, LeBouef and Venango fell and many people were massacred. Forts Pitt, Niagara, Ligonier and Detroit held out and Pontiac's plan collapsed. He was pardoned by the English. In fear that he was about to organize further hostilities among the Illinois Indians, he was stabbed to death by a Kaskaskia tribesman at Cahokia. In retaliations, the Potawatanis practically exterminated the Illinois. Pontiac achieved his fame by his powerful organizing ability and by his six months siege of Fort Detroit. An Ojibwa girl told Major Gladwyn, Commander of the fort, of a strategy to be used by the Indians to get into the fort and take it. The English were ready and Pontiac failed. He was one of the most remarkable men of his race in American history.

Bad Medicine : A Judge’s Struggle for Justice in a First Nations Community

    Can$22.95
Author- John Reilly Early in his career, Judge John Reilly did everything by the book. His jurisdiction included a First Nations community plagued by suicide, addiction, poverty, violence and corruption. He steadily handed out prison sentences with little regard for long-term consequences and even less knowledge as to why crime was so rampant on the reserve in the first place. Broken Circle: The Dark Legacy of Indian Residential Schools: A Memoir Can$19.95 Author- Theodore Fontaine In this powerful and poignant memoir, Theodore examines the impact of his psychological, emotional and sexual abuse, the loss of his language and culture, and, most important, the loss of his family and community. He goes beyond details of the abuses of Native children to relate a unique understanding of why most residential school survivors have post-traumatic stress disorders and why succeeding generations of First Nations children suffer from this dark chapter in history.
