    Geography
Nepal Nepal is a land of scenic beauty with unrivaled attractions. The sovereign and ever independent country situated in the southern slopes of the glorious mountains having frontiers with both Tibet, an autonomous region of the peoples Republic of China in the north and India in the South, East and West has an area of 1,47,181 sq. km. The land extends up to 880 km east to west and 145 km to 241 km north to south. The country due to its geographical variation is divided into three main geographical regions. All three parallel each other, from east to west, as continuous ecological belts, occasionally bisected by the country's river systems.
    Himalayan region:
This region makes up the northern border of Nepal comprising about 15% of the total land area. Its altitude ranges between 4,877 m. to 8,848 m. and the width north-south varies 25-50 km. The region encompasses eight of the 14 highest summits of the world crossing over an altitude of 8000 m including Everest, Annapurna, and Dhaulagiri and so on. Vegetation becomes sparser with altitude and almost ends at 4,500m. Some of Nepal's most beautiful flora and fauna are found in this region.
    Hilly Region:
This region accounts for about 68% of the total land area. The region lies between the Himalayan and Terai regions and the altitude ranges from 500 to 3000 m about sea level. It is the most habitable region of Nepal with temperate climate with summer temperature reaches an average of 32 degree Celsius. Winter is cold; temperature sometimes reaches minus 01 degree Celsius. This region has become an ideal home for many exotic animals, including spotted leopard, barking deer, Himalayan black bear, over 400 species of birds and as many varieties of butterflies.

    Geography
Nepal Table of Contents For a small country, Nepal has great physical diversity, ranging from the Tarai Plainthe northern rim of the Gangetic Plain situated at about 300 meters above sea level in the southto the almost 8,800-meter-high Mount Everest, locally known as Sagarmatha (its Nepali name), in the north. From the lowland Tarai belt, landforms rise in successive hill and mountain ranges, including the stupendous rampart of the towering Himalayas, ultimately reaching the Tibetan Plateau beyond the Inner Himalayas. This rise in elevation is punctuated by valleys situated between mountain ranges. Within this maze of mountains, hills, ridges, and low valleys, elevational (altitudinal) changes rersulted in ecological variations. Nepal commonly is divided into three broad physiographic areas: the Mountain Region, the Hill Region, and the Tarai Region. All three parallel each other, from east to west, as continuous ecological belts, occasionally bisected by the country's river systems. These ecological regions were divided by the government into development sectors within the framework of regional development planning. The rhythm of life in Nepal, as in most other parts of monsoonal Asia, is intricately yet intrinsically intertwined with its physical environment. As scholar Barry Bishop learned from his field research in the Karnali region in the northwest, the livelihood patterns of Nepal are inseparable from the environment.
