Welcome to Summer Session at Rutgers, New Brunswick!
Come to Rutgers this summer to earn credits toward your degree, improve your grade point average, reduce your fall term academic load, or simply learn about a subject of interest in the intensive summer term. Rutgers New Brunswick’s Summer Session offers the high academic quality of a top research university and the breadth of one of the largest summer programs in the country, offering more than 1,500 courses, internships, and research and independent study opportunities, June 1 through August 18. Summer Session is different from the fall and spring terms: You’ll only take one or two courses at a time, to really focus on your subjects. With smaller classes and longer class meetings, you’ll be able to develop deeper and more collegial relationships with your classmates and professors. This is NOT “Rutgers Lite” – you’ll be challenged and stretched, as you cover fifteen weeks’ worth of content in only a few short weeks - but you may find that you enjoy your coursework more than you ever have, before. Of special interest, this summer:

"They came to New Brunswick - with little more than they could carry - to settle what was, even by their standards, a wilderness. And yet, within a few months, these 'loyal Adventurers' had petitioned the government to provide for the education of their children." "so began, in 1785, the Provincial Academy of Arts and Science and the origins of the University of New Brunswick..." - A Pictorial History of the University of New Brunswick , by Susan Montague. We have prepared a short historical sketch of the University of New Brunswick as well as a Visitors Scrapbook of some famous people as they appeared during their visits to UNB over the years. UNB has several buildings of historical interest as well as long list of distinguished Principals and Presidents who have served to make UNB what it is today. Moncton Cost of Living History of Moncton The original aboriginal inhabitants of the Petitcodiac river valley were the Mi'kmaq people. French Acadians first settled the area in 1733, establishing a marshland farming community on the site of present day Moncton, naming it Le Coude (The Elbow). The Petitcodiac river valley fell under British control after the capture of nearby Fort Beausejour in 1755. It was during this time that the majority of the Acadian population was deported; however, some of the inhabitants of the community escaped into the woods and were able to sustain guerilla warfare against the British occupiers until 1758, culminating in the British victory at the Battle of Stoney Creek. The settlement remained empty until a group of eight immigrant families arrived from Pennsylvania in June 1766. They were armed with a land grant issued by the Philadelphia Land Company, one of the principal investors of which was Benjamin Franklin. There is one surviving building in the city dating from this era: the "Treitz Haus", which is said to have been built in the early 1770's. It has recently been renovated as a downtown tourist information centre.
