    NHLA Spring 2010 Survey
You might recall that in May 2010 I polled NH librarians about a variety of things including the best locations for conferences, suggested NHLA membership fees, volunteers for committees and more. I shared this information with the NHLA board but someone recently suggested that I share it with this broader audience. The file is attached here. Please keep in mind that it's in Excel format and there are 10 tabs at the bottom of the page, one tab for each question. Welcome to the New Hampshire Historical Society's Library
The Society's library preserves the finest collection of printed, manuscript, and pictorial materials relating to New Hampshire history anywhere. The library is named for the Society's greatest benefactor, Edward Tuck (1842-1938).
In the early 1900s, Edward Tuck, a successful international financier living in Paris, donated funds to build a new library for the Society. Tuck, a native of Exeter, and his wife, Julia (1850-1928), were generous philanthropists in New Hampshire and in France throughout their lives. Tuck also established the Amos Tuck School of Business at his alma mater, Dartmouth College, named in honor of his father, who was a U.S. Congressman from New Hampshire and a leader in establishing the Republican Party in the mid-1850s. Edward and Julia Tuck also made cash gifts that became the foundation of the Society's endowment. Tuck called his involvement with the creation of the Society's library, "perhaps the happiest inspiration of my life."
Location and Hours
Located at 30 Park Street in Concord, the New Hampshire Historical Society's library and main reading room are open Tuesday through Saturday, 9:30 a.m. to 5 p.m.

UNH Exhibit Celebrates the Career of Jazzman Bob Wilber
September 13, 2010 Jazz clarinetist and soprano saxophone virtuoso Bob Wilber returns to the University of New Hampshire and its Traditional Jazz Series on September 20, 2010. In fact, he will be the headliner for the 200th concert in the long-running series. In conjunction with this reunion, the UNH Library is hosting an exhibit depicting Wilber’s career in jazz, a journey that has continued unabated for over sixty-five years. Images for the exhibit are drawn from the Bob Wilber Collection, which Wilber and his wife, JoAnne (Pug) Horton, donated to the New Hampshire Library of Traditional Jazz Wilber is not only a jazz master on reed instruments, but he is a noted composer and arranger, and an ardent devotee of jazz repertory. The exhibit covers his early immersion as a teenager into the jazz scenes of Boston and New York, his unique connection to the legendary Sidney Bechet, the further maturation of his style with the World’s Greatest Jazz Band and Soprano Summit, and his role in making jazz repertory an integral part of jazz education around the world.

Compilation produced by the New Hampshire State Library. Provides alphabetical listing by title as well as subject index.

Books About New Hampshire
Table of Contents Title Index The New Hampshire State Library first published Books About New Hampshire in 1946. Updated editions were published in 1955, 1962, 1965 and 1969. In 1979 the New Hampshire Department of Education published New Hampshireiana: Books of New Hampshire 1969-1979 . This brochure continued the work begun by the State Library in 1946. Entries in New Hampshireiana were obtained from the "New Hampshire Books" column in each issue of Granite State Libraries . This column, by Eleanor O'Donnell of the State Library, showcases new books about New Hampshire or by New Hampshire authors. The column is still being published in Granite State Libraries This publication incorporates most of the information in the earlier Books About New Hampshire and New Hampshireiana plus the "New Hampshire Books" column through mid 1999. In editing and organizing the material, I have purposely excluded certain types of books. Listed below are the types of books generally NOT included in this bibliography: General histories of New Hampshire
Town histories
Genealogies
Travel guides Regimental histories
Books about New England
Local cookbooks
Government documents Do not consider this guide to be a comprehensive bibliography of all books about New Hampshire. However, it should be helpful to people interested in New Hampshire literature.
