New PERA General Members Hired After July 1, 2010 - See Plan Changes The retirement age and service credit requirements for normal retirement for PERA state and municipal general members first hired on or after July 1, 2010 will increase. General members hired on or before June 30, 2010 remain eligible to retire at any age with 25 or more years of service credit. State police and adult correctional officers, municipal juvenile detention officers and municipal police and firefighters in Plans 3, 4 and 5 will not be affected by the new age and service requirements. IRS Rule Regarding Normal Retirement Age for In-Service Distributions PERA has received several inquiries regarding the new Normal Retirement Age regulation proposed by the Internal Revenue Service (IRS). The IRS recently postponed the effective date of the proposed regulation to allow further review. Consequently, the regulation will not be effective for governmental pension plans until January 1, 2011

The OMI is designated as a special program within the Department of Pathology at the University of New Mexico School of Medicine. OMI provides training in many aspects of medicolegal death investigation.
