2010 Libraries GO Bond Request
$20,250,000 General Obligation Bond Issue
For New Mexico Libraries
The Legislature is being asked to support a bill authorizing Academic, Public School, Public and Tribal Libraries to be included in the November 2010 statewide GO Bond election.   We are asking that voters be asked to approve a $20,250,000 dollar bond package which will fund the purchase of books and other resources. Once again, as in 2002, 2004, 2006 and 2008, this bond has the potential to make a huge difference to all New Mexico libraries, big and small.  All New Mexico citizens from Kindergarteners to Senor Citizens will benefit from funds included in this GO Bond.

University of New Mexico Libraries
Library Overview
The Center for Southwest Research (CSWR) is the University of New Mexico (UNM) Libraries' special collections department and UNM's resource center for the comparative and interdisciplinary study of New Mexico and the Southwest. The CSWR includes archival materials, rare books, music, architecture, and photographs; the University Archives manuscript collections document the political, economic, and social history of New Mexico, the Southwest, and Mexico. Most of the collections date from the 19th and 20th centuries and include the papers and records of politicians, historic and literary figures, architects, activists, attorneys, local families, organizations, and businesses. There are more than 90,000 books and periodicals in the Center for Southwest Research rare book collection. Strengths of the collection include New Mexicana and the Southwest, Mexican colonial history, codices, archaeology, Chicano studies, and Native American studies. The John Donald Robb Archive of Southwestern Music is dedicated to preserving the musical heritage of New Mexico and the Southwest. The John Gaw Meem Archives document the built environment of New Mexico and the Southwest. Materials in the collection also record the works of art historians, architectural firms, and other related organizations. The Pictorial Collection contains over 80,000 images dating from the mid-1850s to the recent past. The collection is subject-oriented with a focus on the histories of New Mexico, the Southwest, and Latin America and Mexico. Also included are important collections of Mexican popular prints by José Guadalupe Posada and a collection of publications from the Taller de Gráfica Popular. The University Archives serves as an information resource for the history and development of the University of New Mexico.
