New Mexico Regions Plan for Their Water. I n New Mexico's sixteen waterplanning regions , planners are working to answer the five questions posed by the Interstate Stream
http://www.seo.state.nm.us/publications/waterlines/wl-winter-2000/nmregion.html
Water Line (the agency newsletter) Last Modified: 3/16/2000 New Mexico Regions Plan for Their Water I n New Mexico's sixteen water-planning regions ( see Map ), planners are working to answer the five questions posed by the Interstate Stream Commission:
  • What is the supply?
  • What is the demand?
  • What are the alternatives to balance demand and supply?
  • What are the advantages and disadvantages of each alternative?
  • Which one will you use? The legislature mandated a grass-roots regional-water-planning process, and the ISC encourages planners to air all five questions in public forums from the beginning of the process to the end.
    Legislative Support
The legislature created New Mexico's regional-water-planning initiative in 1987. The 1998 legislature appropriated $1,750,000 of severance tax bond funds to the State Engineer for regional water planning, providing the program with substantial resources for the first time. A Memorandum of Understanding between the State Engineer and the Interstate Stream Commission divided the appropriation among regional water planning ($800,000), tribal participation ($100,000), a contingency fund ($100,000), and preparation of a framework state water plan ($750,000). The ISC then issued a request for proposals for regional water plans in 1998. Fourteen of the sixteen regions responded with requests for nearly $3 million; a total of $833,000 was awarded to seven regions (

    Geologic Provinces of Baja California
    Next
Back to Page Contents B AJA CALIFORNIA can be divided into 5 provinces based on geologic landforms. They are:
  • the tilted granitic fault blocks of the main mountain ranges,
  • the broad flat coastal plains,
  • the isolated coastal mountains,
  • the fault block mountains and alluviated valleys of the Basin and Ranges, and
  • the plateaus of the Volcanic Tablelands. The first three provinces are part of the Cretaceous collision of the North American and the Pacific Plate. The last two provinces are directly related to the opening of the Gulf of California.
  • The tilted granitic fault blocks are represented by the Sierra Juarez and the Sierra San Pedro Martir which form the main granitic ranges of the State of Baja California and the Sierra La Laguna of the Cape region mountains. The main rock types in this province are granitic, metamorphic, and metavolcanic.

    • Home Visit Spiders of Baja California Checklist Bibliography Spiders of San Diego County Entomology BRCC Compiled by Jim Berrian, BCSpiders@aol.com
Last updated January 2005 The following checklist is preliminary and hopefully will be useful for environmental management and planning as well as a starting point for further biological studies of the regional spider fauna. Citations refer to papers with locality information, descriptions, or nomenclatural notes. As the author is relatively new to arachnology having "jumped ship" from herpetology he welcomes any comments, additional records and, especially, corrections. Classification generally follows Roth (1993). Families are arranged alphabetically within the mygalomophs and araneomorphs to permit more efficient access to a particular taxon by those unfamiliar with spider taxonomy. This list shows 43 families, 151 genera and as many as 411 species. Notes:
      BC= Estado de Baja California
BCS= Estado de Baja California del Sur
? = occurs in San Diego, Imperial or Yuma Counties, may occur in Mexico
