  • The Programs
    Master of Arts in English
    The MA in English is a 30-33 hour degree with five options: literature creative writing rhetoric and composition teaching English as a second language , and teaching. The degree prepares students to pursue a Ph.D. or to teach in a community or junior college. For those students who have an undergraduate teaching certificate, the MA in English is certified for Rank II and Rank I in the secondary schools. There is a thesis option in all but the creative writing option, in which a thesis is required. Near the end of course work, students take an oral examination with a committee of three faculty members. The Master of Arts in Education with a minor in English
    The minor , designed for students who already possess a teaching certificate, includes 12-15 hours of English classes.

    Advisor, MALS Program (MA Liberal Studies UNCG) Julee is the go-to person for questions about the MALS program. From the application process, registration instructions, course selection, transcript review, purchasing books, program design, graduation process, etc. Julee is available to help. "Julee’s accessibility and ability to serve as mentor, trouble shooter, and liaison for faculty, students and administrators alike drive the program toward ever-increasing success.     Director, MALS Program Kathleen has worked with the MALS program since 1994. She is responsible for the overall planning, delivery and assessment of the program, including faculty recruitment, course offerings, curriculum development and new academic initiatives. She is a board member of the Association of Graduate Liberal Studies Programs (AGLSP).
    Professors
    (Ph.D. University of Washington) Dr. Anderson is an Associate Professor in the History department at UNCG. His fields of study include Late Imperial China, Modern China, Pre-modern Southeast Asia, and High Medieval Europe. He is the recipient of several awards, including a Fulbright Fellowship for the 2006-2007 academic year in Beijing and a Luce Fellowship at the Library of Congress in 2004. His new book is titled, "The Rebel Den of Nung Tri Cao: Eleventh-Century Rebellion and Response along the Sino-Vietnamese Frontier."
