North Carolina Teacher Certification:
Education Careers of the Future
North Carolina teacher certification means access to a thriving region, a growing economy, and some of the best public schools in the nation. North Carolina needs teachers and school staff. So much so that the state is actively recruiting professionals from others states. Even from other countries. If you live in North Carolina, or if you are willing to relocate, opportunities for teaching careers abound. As always, your first step is to find out the certification requirements in the state. Second, because North Carolina honors teaching certificates earned from any regionally accredited college, find an online teacher preparation program that suits your needs. If you live a rural community, the commute alone may make a traditional campus-based college unaffordable. An online teaching degree may be right for you. If you have a family or a full-time job, you may not have the time to attend classes at a traditional campus. Again, search for online education and distance learning solutions. Phoenix and Western Governor's both have accredited programs for teacher preparation. WG will be significantly cheaper, but Phoenix offers a wider selection of courses and degrees.

  • North Carolina provides two different types of certification for varying levels of experience. North Carolina's State Board of Education and Department of Public Instruction provide two different types of teacher certification. These varying certifications depend on the amount of experience that the applicant possesses, making it possible to become certified whether you have decades of experience or none at all. Even if you have taught in another state, though, take note that North Carolina does not have 100 percent reciprocity with any other state.

This license is valid for three years.

April 16th, 2010 Montessori Teacher Certification The Montessori mode of instruction was first pioneered by Dr. Maria Montessori, who was an Italian instructor deeply interested in the activities of children. Teaching in a Montessori school is a great deal of responsibility and as a result of that it is important for the Montessori schools as well as their teachers to have a proper type of certification so that they are well qualified to meet the everyday challenges of teaching children in their nascent stages. Montessori schools are the stepping stones towards a whole journey of education. Thus it is very crucial that the Montessori school teachers have the proper kind of license and certification to carry on with their work. Various Kinds of Certification Available: There are a number of certifications available for the Montessori teachers training. You will need to browse through websites to know about these certifications if you are interested in pursuing Montessori teaching as a vocation.  The Montessori teacher’s certification mainly depends on the different US states and their policies. International Montessori Council and the Montessori Foundation are responsible for granting these certifications done through a number of centers and colleges. In order to practice in a particular state, you will need to be certified as per the requirements of that state. The following is a list of the most common two levels of certifications:

    Alternate Routes to Teaching
General Certification Requirements Each state has unique requirements for teacher licensure or certification. For information about the requirements in your state, be sure to check with your state Department of Education. Even though most states have unique requirements, teachers are typically required to fulfill the following basic requirements:
  • A bachelor's degree, and in some states, a post-baccalaureate or master's degree. For elementary education, either a major or minor in education (for B.A.) or a Masters in Education will be required.
For secondary subjects, a degree in the teaching area. An approved, accredited education program that fulfills student teaching and practicum requirements must be completed.
In addition to the major, proof of a strong liberal arts foundation may be required. Most states require a passing grade on their state test or the PRAXIS exam. Some states require proof that you have taken a variety of college courses in basic subject areas (English, math, science, social studies, and language), particularly for obtaining licensure in elementary education.
  • Alternate Routes to Teaching To recruit more teachers, especially in areas with a shortage of teachers, a number of states have programs that offer nontraditional routes to teaching. Several have special licensing procedures for non-traditional applicants. The requirements for an alternative teaching licenses can differ by state. See the your state's Department of Education website for further information or search for alternate routes to teaching on the
