Since the era of Pierre Trudeau multiculturalism has been the motus operadi of Canadian society, and nowhere else in Canada is there more cultural diversity than in Ontario. Culture in Ontario is free from the nationalist attachment to language that pulls predominantly French-speaking immigrants to Quebec, and is not located on the Pacific Rim which pulls a disproportionate number of Chinese into British Columbia. While Toronto is undoubtedly the cultural cross-roads of the province (44% of Torontonians were immigrants according to the 2001 census ) the immigrant population is well-established throughout Ontario. Despite the challenges though Ontario is one of the most open and accepting provinces in one of the most open and accepting countries on Earth. Men and women enjoy complete equality that is fully enshrined in law. Homosexuality is open and acceptable, and same-sex marriage has been legal for years. There is freedom of religion and the press. Healthcare and education are free and universal. Learn more about this author

Culture is defined as a group of people whose shared beliefs and practices identify the particular class, time, or place to which they belong. Defining Ontario culture is like a Sunday evening mixing of the week's meals into a big bowl of stew, as almost every single culture from around the world can be found within Ontario's borders. From every Continent and country on this lovely blue planet, third from the Sun, there are people that have immigrated to Canada and have settled in Ontario, up until a few years ago the most prosperous Province in the country. There may be more of one race in certain cities, like the Tamils, Chinese or Pakistanis in Toronto, the Somalis in Ottawa, and the European Nation represented just about everywhere, usually closely confined in geographical areas of the city, like Chinatown.
Ontario culture is fast becoming nothing more than a reason to throw a huge barbeque picnic with bands and dancing girls, or cultural festivals that espouse the foods, clothing and arts from each race's home nation. From Lollapalooza in Toronto (Latin American) to the Dragon Boat Festival in Ottawa (Chinese), there is a festival during the summer months that will be perfect for each and every culture that is represented in Ontario. Ottawa has an Italian week that showcases exotic Italian sports cars and fine dining. Every city in Ontario has at least one festival of some sort or another, and if timed properly, a family could travel throughout Ontario, going to different festivals every weekend.

The Toronto Star writes that she may have made a decision not to run in the next general election. In Canadian politics it is not unusual for retiring ministers to get dumped from cabinet before they actually retire. Her replacement is going to be Michael Chan, who is moving from the Citizenship and Immigration post.

Ron Williamson told Heritage Key in an interview last summer that the This is not a new problem, but rather one that Carroll inherited. New facilities are now being built in Hamilton and London Ontario to alleviate the situation. Her tenure as minister saw a number of positives. The arrival of the Dead Sea Scrolls and King Tut in Toronto were major coups. The Art Gallery of Ontario completed a major expansion and the Royal Ontario Museum is adding new Roman and Byzantine galleries The province is running a deficit of more than $20 billion (CDN) and, at some point, will likely have to cut spending to balance its books. If the cuts hit, it will be up to Chan to mitigate how they affect the ministry. Read 2 comments, or leave your own
