A personal word:
a warm welcome to this web site. This website examines the Orthodox Church, with its rich and ancient tradition. There are perhaps over 250 million Orthodox Christians worldwide, and they are found in many countries around the world. The largest community of Orthodox Christians is found in Russia. Let us remind ourselves of the words of Christ: "That they all may be one, as thou, Father, in me, and I in thee; that they also may be one in us: that the world may believe that thou hast sent me. And the glory which thou hast given me, I have given to them: that, they may be one, as we also are one."

Prayer in the Orthodox Church
"He who is able to pray correctly, even if he is the poorest of all people, is essentially the richest. And he who does not have proper prayer, is the poorest of all, even if he sits on a royal throne."
St John Chrysostom Prayer is the elevation of the mind and the heart to God in praise, in thanksgiving, and in petition for the spiritual and material goods we need.  Our Lord Jesus Christ commanded us to enter into our inner room and there pray to God the Father in secret. This inner room means the heart, the core of our being.   The Apostle Paul says that we must always pray in our spirit.  He commands prayer for all Christians without exception and asks us to pray unceasingly. Orthodox Christians engage in both corporate and personal prayer.  One’s individual prayer life is balanced with participation in the liturgical services of the Church where the whole community gathers for prayer and worship.

Dear friends, most of the people of our church have ethnic roots either in Europe or in Africa. Our Council decided that one way we could celebrate our wonderful diversity here would be to have a couple of international dinners heralding the foods and cultural heritage of our members. Our members whose families come from the Horn of Africa decided that they would like to close out our 75th anniversary celebration next February with an Ethiopian-Eritean dinner. In two weeks, we'll celebrate the European side of our heritage with a dinner of foods from Europe, along with cultural displays and activities. Join us as we celebrate our muiltcultural unity and share in one another's heritage. There will be a free offering taken for the benefit of our parish ministries. The dinner will be "pot luck"-buffet style. People who have an ethnic dish they want to bring are invited to do so. SUNDAY - NOVEMBER 10TH FOLLOWING LITURGY AT 11:30 AM

The British Orthodox Church is a small Orthodox jurisdiction, canonically part of the Coptic Orthodox Patriarchate of Alexandria. Our mission is to the people of the British Isles, and though we are completely Orthodox in our faith and practice we remain British in our ethos and in our appreciation of the Orthodox heritage of these islands. The British Orthodox Church was originally established in 1866 when a Frenchman, Jules Ferrette, was consecrated as a bishop by the Syrian Orthodox Church with the purpose of re-establishing Orthodoxy to the West.
