What's New at Holy Apostles ...

Home Welcome to Holy Apostles ... Holy Apostles Orthodox Church is a parish of the Orthodox Church in America. Begun as the missionary outreach of the Russian Orthodox Church to America, we were granted autocephaly (independence) in 1970. We preserve, pass on, and persevere in two thousand years of theology, doctrine, worship, and ethical morality which flow seamlessly from the fullness of the apostolic witness to the Gospel of Jesus Christ. We are in communion with the larger body of canonical Orthodox Churches throughout the world including the Russian, Greek, Jerusalem, Antiochian, Romanian, Georgian and other national churches. We join them in being worshipping communities, striving together to be in synergy with the image and likeness of Christ in word, deed, thought and loving service to others (lex orandi lex credendi). While our community consists of many people from parts of the world that are traditionally Orthodox, more than half of our parishioners are Americans who have turned to Orthodoxy from another faith tradition (or no tradition at all). We preach the Gospel of Jesus Christ unto salvation for all who have ears to hear, and we encourage you to visit and worship with us.

N amed after the Apostle and Evangelist St. Mark, our church is a small community of Orthodox Christians with various national and cultural backgrounds. Many of us were born and raised in different countries: the United States, Greece, Russian, Serbia, Ukraine, Belarus, Romania, Germany, Finland, Poland, and many others. We may have different traditions to follow in our everyday life, but we all have one thing in common - the same belief, the same Christian ideals, the strong desire to grow spiritually, the interest and respect to many different cultures and traditions. Our church serves people from as far North as St. Petersburg, including Sun City, Parish, and as far South as Sarasota, Venice (Florida) since 1979.
We hope you will be able to find answers for many of your questions about Orthodox Christianity Orthodox spirituality , historical and cultural roots of Orthodoxy, and about its teaching and traditions.
