6. Systematics Of The Brachiopoda
Information from the University of California Paleontology Museum.
http://www.ucmp.berkeley.edu/brachiopoda/brachiopodasy.html
Brachiopoda : Systematics
The Phoronida , a probable close relative of the Brachiopoda, is the outgroup on the above cladogram. Both groups belong to the larger group Lophophorata Traditionally, the brachiopods have been split into two major groups, the Inarticulata and the Articulata. The Inarticulata got their name from the fact that they possess two valves that do not have an articulating hinge. The groups above that fit this description are the Lingulata and Obolellida; all others have articulating hinges. Recently it has been argued that hinge articulation is not a good character on which to make brachiopod groups. Thus, we break up the brachiopods as shown above, following Popov et al. (1993). It should be noted here that brachiopod phylogeny has been unstable in recent years, with various authors proposing that brachiopods are polyphyletic that is, that different brachiopod groups evolved separately from phoronid-like ancestors. During the next 1.5 million years, H. erectus spread to north Africa, Europe and Asia. The size of the brain increased markedly from the earliest to the last members of this species. Homo erectus was the first member of the human family to use fire. The volume of the brain varied from 800 to 1200 cm3, but the hemisphaerical brain was proportionally smaller than in modern humans. Du er her: Forsiden For beskende Faste utstillinger Fossiler ... Skiftende utstillinger Mesozoic mammals Early Mammals The mammals first appeared at the same time as the dinosaurs, in the late Triassic, about 230 million years ago. Their ancestors were the mammal-like reptiles. During the first two thirds of mammalian history, when the dinosaurs ruled the Earth, the mammals were small, nocturnal animals about the size of mice and rats. When the dinosaurs died out 65 million years ago, the mammals were well equipped to exploit the different ecological niches left vacant, and their rapid evolution started. Triconodonts The triconodonts were the most primitive mammals. They looked like mammal-like reptiles - cynodonts - but were smaller. Like the cynodonts, they had molars with three cusps in a straight row. Large canines show that the triconodonts were carnivorous, but some may have been insectivores. They died out in the late Cretaceous. Multituberculates The multituberculates are an extinct side branch of the mammalian line; the first omnivorous mammals. They had large incisors, looking somewhat like modern rodents, and long multi-cusped molars. They were numerous and diverse in the late Cretaceous and the early Tertiary. They died out in the Oligocene, about 35 million years ago, probably because of competition from the rodents.

18. The Great Mystery: Background
Information on current and past hypotheses on dinosaur extinctions from the University of California Paleontology Museum.
http://www.ucmp.berkeley.edu/diapsids/extinction.html
What Killed The Dinosaurs?
THE GREAT MYSTERY History: Mesozoic era, but were not located in the rock layers ( strata ) of the Cenozoic era. So, we knew that dinosaurs went extinct some 64-66 million years ago, but that was all. Many wild ideas about how the dinosaurs were rendered extinct were presented over the years. K-T extinction " (meaning the extinction of dinosaurs at the boundary between the Cretaceous period (K) and the Tertiary period (T)). This hypothesis is discussed later. Since the Alvarez hypothesis was first proposed, the search for the "perpetrator" of the K-T extinction has been a thriving area of scientific research. It incorporates scientists from many different fields including astrophysics, astronomy, geology, paleontology, ecology, geochemistry, and so on. The mystery has drawn extensive media coverage over the last 15 years, as you may know; some paleontologists have since lost interest in the issue, preferring to study how the dinosaurs and their contemporaries lived rather than why they died. Mass Extinctions: But before we dive into the complex issue of the K-T extinction, we need essential background information to understand the basics of the controversy. The "great dying," as it is sometimes called, is an example of a

About us:
In 2007, a young CEO saw the need for talented multimedia Artists in the
Paleontology community. With that focus she recruited talented Computer
Graphic Artists, Animators, Painters, and Sculptors from across the United
States. The artists would be guided by some of the most respected
paleontologists in the field. With a strong and talented team assembled Field
Discovery Ltd.

Since that time Field Discovery artists have produced several realistic
CGI dinosaur models and animations. The animations were aired on China
