These birds have long tails and are generally some of the smaller birds in the parrot family. Included in the Parakeet family are Bourkes Parakeets Budgies (Budgerigars) and Cockatiels . The following Parakeets are less common - many of them make marvelous pets and others are rarely found in the pet trade. Elegant Parakeet - approximately 8.5 inches long – mainly yellowish olive, blue band across top of head and along outer wings, with the female being duller. King Parakeet - 2 sizes – 1 is approximately 15 inches long and the larger one is approximately 16.5 inches long – mostly red bodies with green wings, with the female having a pale green head and breast. There are a few more King Parakeets that vary in both size and colour. Mulga Parakeet - approximately 10.5 inches long – mainly green with yellow forehead, red and yellow lower breast, blue on outer wings, with the females being much duller overall.
