    Quaker Parrots
    General:
    The Quaker parakeet, also referred to as the Monk parakeet, is a smaller
    parrot, standing at 12 inches. They are mainly green with grey on the
    chest, throat, and cheeks. There is another color mutation also available,
    the beautiful blue mutation.
    These adorable feathers of love are friendly, playful, and very social. They
    have the ability to speak quite good, in an astounding appropriate way as
    well. Quakers are easy to train with patience and proper positive
    reinforcement.
    Environment: Quaker parakeets originate from South America ranging from Brazil to Argentina, but are now seen in many wild colonies across the United States due to companion birds that have escaped from captivity. Some of the highest population of feral birds reside in Florida, Illinois, Connecticut, Rhode Island, New Jersey, New York, Louisiana, Texas. States such as California, Georgia, Kansas, Kentucky, Hawaii, New Jersey, Pennsylvania, Tennessee, and Wyoming have made it illegal to own a Quaker because of the crop and garden damage these birds can do if let out in the community.

    Book Review #5: The Click that Does the Trick by Robin Deutsch
    By BlueHairBob on 01/12/2007 Filed in - book Parrot. Tricks Here's what I like about this book: "The Click That Does The Trick" focuses on step by step training of tricks with parrots.  General behavior training and parrot handling and nutrition and stuff like that is really important - but this book doesn't cover any of that: just tricks.  Actually, it covers two things: tricks and building the props for the tricks. When learning to train tricks, you have to learn to get a fairly complex series of tiny steps before the trick looks complete.  Sometimes you have to start at the end and work backward - sometimes you have to start at the beginning and work forwards - sometimes you have to start in the middle and work outwards.  Choosing the best sequence to follow for each behavior is a matter of experience and "design" of your tricks.  This book gives great examples of figuring out a step-by-step plan and deciding on clear objectives before staring the training. The book is easy to read and has lots of pictures.  You probably won't use "every trick in the book" (not every bird can balance on a ball and walk it across a stage), but you will find a lot of great tricks (from easy to advanced) that you can teach - you will also find example after example of how to plan and train a complex behavior.

All About Your Parrot's Feathers The Causes of Molt, Feather Problems And What You Can Do About Them Ron Hines DVM PhD Lots of my articles are plagiarized and altered on the web to market products and services. There are never adds running or anything for sale with my real articles - other than my time. Try to stay with the ones with http://www.2ndchance.info/ in the URL box or find all my articles at ACC.htm italicized font . Even then, this article may be a yawn to most parrot owners - I got deeper into feathers than most veterinarians do during my days at SeaWorld. I focused this article on parrots. But since no scientific experiments use parrots as their subjects, I have had to use my personal observations and to reach out for information to birds that have been studied. Fortunately, the basic mechanisms and life processes are very similar between birds. Current research on how feathers develop is centered at the Keck School of Medicine of USC and Arizona State University . The US NIH funds this research because of its interest in how human body organs might be regenerated. They have all told me that there are big gaps in what we know about the molt process. What Feathers Are Although feathers start out alive as pinfeathers, when they are fully formed, like your hair, they are dead and cannot be repaired. When the shaft of a feather on your bird is still alive, it will have a purple-blue color and it will bleed profusely if it gets injured.

Kenya: Widespread in the eastern half of Kenya, except the coastal lowlands. The most common of the 5 parrots found in Kenya and the easiest to spot. It's not particularly shy and is easy to find, not least because it's fairly noisy with distinctive and very unmusical screech. It prefers low dry country and you should be able to see it on a visit to either Tsavo or Samburu. In Samburu they're fairly common around the Doum Palms and "Sausage Trees" along the banks of the Uaso Nyiro usually in pairs. Only the male has the orange belly which the name comes from, the female is green underneath. Quite distinctive and not easy to confuse with anything else; it also helps that their range doesn't really overlap with any of the other Kenyan parrots. General

    Please select one of the parrots below for more information on the parrots or click here for sales information. Eclectus Parrots are found in Solomon Islands, New Guinea, northeastern Australia and the Maluku Islands (Moluccas). The males of the species are bright green, having bright orange-coloured upper mandibles and black lower mandibles, and blue or red tail and wing feathers; while the females have red heads and blue to purple breasts, with black beaks. Like African Greys, Eclectus Parrots have a very good volcabulary and need mental stimulation in the form of toys they can chew and foraging toys where food can be hidden for them to work out how to get it out. Eclectus Parrots for the most part are quiet birds however they are occasionally noisy if they are startled. document.getElementById('afgreyinfo').style.display = "none"; document.getElementById('eclectusinfo').style.display = "none";
