    Food Recall Increase?
    It appears that food warnings and recalls, particularly from products originating from China, have been on the rise. The Canadian Food Inspection Agency (CFIA) places the onus of food safety on the importer, who must adhere to the CFIA's quality standards. While this has been little comfort to those upset by the rash of recent recalls, it has increased awareness of such issues, catalysing growth of such organizations as Canadian Partnership for Consumer Food Safety Education and increasing awareness of the benefits of locally grown and organic food.

    The Pediatric Nutrition Surveillance System (PedNSS) and the Pregnancy Surveillance System (PNSS) are program-based surveillance systems that monitor the nutritional status of low-income infants, children, and women in federally funded maternal and child health programs.
    PedNSS data represent nearly 9 million children from birth to age 5. PNSS data represent approximately 1.3 million pregnant and postpartum women. These surveillance systems provide data that describe prevalence and trends of nutrition, health, and behavioral indicators for mothers and children. Surveillance data available at this site include national data tables with contributor-specific data on health indicators. Data reports for individual contributors are not available at this site.
