That's because Peru was settled by European explorers in the 16th century who brought with them new art forms. Before the Europeans arrived, Incas ruled the land of Peru. The Incas were a group of natives who had mastered many art forms. In fact, they were so good at many art forms that parts of their culture were more advanced than European culture when they arrived. One of these art forms was pottery. Pottery is the art of molding clay into shapes and letting it dry and harden. Pottery has been used to create sculptures. It has also been used to create practical things, like pots, cups, and dishes. The art of pottery in Peru was very advanced even before the Incas took control of Peru.

Peru Culture
The culture of Peru is vast and a fascinating aspect of travel throughout the country. The Indian Culture is prevalent in the cities and countryside. We do offer special tours of unique remote villages their inhabitants. On Taquile Island in Lake Titicaca the men knit caps and bags of colorful wool and their lifestyle is attuned to the rocky island that they farm. Or Amantani Island where the folk is kind and gentle with a simple lifestyle but intricate social structure. In Cuzco the Incan descendants are visible on the streets, farms and homes dressed in colorful wool clothing and felt hats. On a full day excursion from Cuzco visit the Willoc's Weavers in their native rural Quechua community where excellent textiles are produced by the women. In the cities of Cuzco Lima and Arequipa the colonial style and Plaza de Armas harken back to the Spanish influence as well as the European style of the city dwellers.

Peru : Culture
The key to understanding Peruvian society is to view aspects of its dynamic ethnoracial character as a set of variables that constantly interplays with socioeconomic factors associated with social class configurations. Thus, a native American might acquire the Spanish language, a university education, a large amount of capital, and a cosmopolitan demeanor, but still continue to be considered an indio (Indian) in many circles and thus be an unacceptable associate or marital companion. Yet, there is opportunity for socioeconomic mobility that permits ambitious individuals and families to ascend the hierarchy ranks in limited ways and via certain pathways. Such mobility is easier if one starts on the ladder as a mestizo or a foreigner, but particularly if one is white. Amazonas Ancash Apurimac Arequipa ... AskBabyNames @ 2008 MapZones

Peru Culture
Culture is the aquired knowledge that people use to interpret, experience, and generate social behavior. Culture is learned by viewing beliefs and customs within the culture and we extrapolate meaning systems by observing what people do, what they say, and the artifacts people use. In class, we studied Peru's culture through college students at USIL, a university in Lima. We were able to talk to them through video,e-mail, and chat discussion. My partner was Fiorella and from her I learned many things about her culture: College life, family tradition, religion, meaning of life, stereoytpes, and predjudices. From talking to Fiorella, I found that some things about the university in Lima were similar and some were different to the college life here in Greenville, North Carolina. On our first linking day I was able to chat

Peru, officially the Republic of Peru, is a country in western South America, bordering Ecuador and Colombia to the north, Brazil to the east, Bolivia to the south-east, Chile to the south, and the Pacific Ocean to the west. In addition to being known as the cradle of the Inca empire, Peru harbors many indigenous ethnic groups, making it a major historical and cultural site.
History Peru declared its independence from Spain on July 28, 1821 thanks to an alliance between the Army of José de San Martín, and the Army of Simón Bolívar. Its first elected president, however, was not in power until 1827. Culture Like its rich national history, the popular culture of contemporary Peru is the result of a fusion of cultures, constituted primarily from the cultural legacy of the Incas and the culture of Spain. This cultural mixture has been further enriched by the contributions of so many other cultures of the world that have come to call Peru home throughout its history; from African slaves, to non-Hispanic Europeans, and even East Asians. Prior to Spanish colonization concentrated almost entirely upon the production of fine pottery, metalwork, stonecraft and textiles. The Spanish subsequently introduced their version of urban planning, with cities laid out in checkerboard fashion, and constructed mansions, churches and monasteries which slavishly mimicked Spanish renaissance or the rather Spanish early baroque. The mountain town of Machu Picchu and the buildings at Cuzco are excellent examples of Inca architectural design.
