    The Geography of Peru
The geography of Peru is truly a wonder. When it comes to location, this country has it all! For nature fans, I can think of few places better than Peru to experience a wide range of climates and geographical features. How many places on earth can you trek through hot, humid jungles one day and cold, arid glaciers the next? Peru is, of course, located in South America and is bordered by Ecuador and Colombia to the north, Brazil and Bolivia to the east, Chile to the south, and the Pacific Ocean to the west.
    Peru Geography Regions
Peru geography is broken up into three basic regions: the Amazon Basin, the coastal region, and the Andean mountain ranges. Each one has its own unique climate and supports a flora and fauna that you won’t find in any of the other areas. In a sense, the geography of Peru makes the country three different places in one. First we’ll look at the Amazon Basin . This region of Peru lies between 260 and 1,300 feet above sea level. The Amazon rainforest makes up about 60% of Peru’s territory and while much of the region is untouched, tourism is becoming quite popular here.

    Peru Geography
Peru's territory has an area of 1,285,216 km². It is bordered by Ecuador and Colombia on the north, Brazil and Bolivia to the east, and finally Chile and Bolivia to the south. To the west lies the Pacific Ocean. Its population has more than 27 million inhabitants that speak Spanish, with others bilingual in Quechua or Aymara and other native languages.
Eastern Peru consists mostly of the moist tropical jungles of the Amazon Rain Forest, the largest on Earth. In the southeast along the border with Bolivia lies Lake Titicaca — the highest navigable lake in the world. The Altiplano plateau is a dry basin located along the slopes of the Andes in southeastern Peru. Along the border with Chile, the Atacama Desert is the driest place on the planet.
The Peruvian Sea is home to a large amount and variety of fish life. The Sechura Desert is located in northwestern Peru along the Pacific coastline.
The main rivers of Peru include the Ucayali, Marañon, Amazon (which is formed by the confluence of the Marañon and the Ucayali), Putumayo, Pastaza, Napo, Jurua, and the Purus.

Peru is divided into three large geographical regions. Te Costa (Coast) is properly a large desert strip, flat or undulatind territory adyacent to the ocean, the Sierra (Mountains) is the mountain territory corresponding to the Andean range. The Selva (jungle) is the flat, wooded and rainy region found at the eastern side of the Andean range. However, the ancient Peruvian manmidentified eight natural regions, each one of these regions covers the territory from the North to the South and from west to East, running along with the Andean range. These regions are:
Chala: covers the territory between the sea and 1640 feet as of the western slope of the Andes. Its weather is temperate, due to the ocean incluence, it has occasional light rains and desert landscapes with valleys irrigated by rivers that descend from the Andes. The cities of Piura, Chiclayo, Trujillo, Lima, Ica, Tacna are all within this region. Yunga , the coastal Yunga raises from 1,640 to 7,540 fees at eh western side of the Andes. Ir ia rugged and has a desert landscape, it receives occasional light rains. The fluvial Yunga is found between 7,540 and 3,280 feet at the eastern side of the Andes. Peru is divided into three regions. Although this simple division is a fair portrait of Peru's geography, the reality is much richer and far more complex: in Peru, nature appears to have taken on particular characteristics which have turned its mountains, plains, jungles and valleys into unique habitats. An extraordinary variety of eco-systems shelters a wide diversity of animals and plants. THE COAST The Peruvian coastline is formed by a long snaking desert hemmed in between the sea and the mountains. The Andes to the east and the cold Humboldt sea current that runs along the coast are what make this area so arid. From the Sechura desert to the Nazca plains and the Atacama desert, the dry coastal terrain is occasionally split by valleys covered by a thick layer of cloud and drizzle in the winter. Humidity in these areas produces a sensation of cold, although temperatures rarely dip below 12°C. During the summer, meanwhile, the sun beats down and temperatures often top 30°C. The central and southern sections of the coast feature two well-defined seasons: winter from April to October, and summer from November to March. The north coast, meanwhile, is not touched by the effects of the cold current, which means it enjoys 300 days of sunshine a year and warm temperatures all year-long (as much as 35°C in the summer). The rain season runs from November to March.
