CULTURE Most visitors will find Philippines to be an intriguing and enchanting place. Considering that Philippines has such a colorful history, one can expect to experience a blend of richly unique culture of foreign influences and native elements. Be it museums, dances or beauty pageants, Philippines is one great cultural center that is bound to capture the heart of any visitor. Cultural Center of the Philippines
The existence of a great cultural background in the Philippines has given many visitors the privilege to peek into and experience the Filipino way of life. Their eagerness to share their culture with the world has led to the birth of the Cultural Center of the Philippines (CCP). This cultural center, located on Roxas Boulevard is home to several theaters, a library, a museum, galleries, exhibition rooms and restaurants. Being the pride and joy of Imelda Marcos, the former first lady, the CCP was built based on a vision to promote and boost culture. However, it was unfortunate that past cultural policy has restricted free development of both the performing and visual arts. Nevertheless, at this present day, supporting free expression has become the center's cultural policy. Operating on this policy, it is with hope that the local arts will soon find their way to the world stage.

Philippines Culture and Environment Culture
The Philippines has developed a mixed culture from the blending of foreign influences with native elements. Today some of the isolated tribes are the only people whose culture remains unadulterated by earlier Muslim and later Spanish and American influences. Although traditional theatre, literature and kundimans (love songs) in the national language have experienced a resurgence since Cory Aquino's People Power movement, visitors are more likely to witness beauty contests, lurid soap operas, violent and sentimental Filipino movies, and local bands perfectly imitating Western pop tunes. About 10% of Filipinos (the so-called cultural minority groups or tribal Filipinos) retain their traditional culture. There are some 60 ethnological groups, ranging from the Badjao of the Sulu archipelago, who are sea gypsies, to the head-hunting Kalinga north of Bontoc. The Philippines is the only Christian country in Asia . Over 90% of the population claim to follow Christian faiths. The largest of the minority religious groups is the Muslims, who live chiefly on

About the Philippines Home Page

Family and Community
Filipinos do value their family and relatives more than anything. Even though the Philippines might have been heavily influenced by the west, the family is still the basic unit of their society which keeps their values intact. Due to the bond within each family, parents find it difficult to let go of their children therefore we commonly see grandparents still living with their children. Filipinos also keep very close ties with other relatives which brings about this Filipino saying: " not being able to know a relative is like turning their backs from where they come from." Although it would seem that the continued high rate of population growth aggravated the state of the Philippine economy and health care, population growth did not seem to be a major concern of the government. Roman Catholic clergy withdrew cooperation from the Population Control Commission (Popcom) and sought its elimination. The commission was retained, and government efforts to reduce population growth continued but hardly on a scale likely to produce major results. Abra Agusan Del Norte Agusan Del Sur Aklan ... Philippines Culture - Blended Mixture of Many
Philippines culture is a mixture of a number of cultures which reflects the complexity of its history. Due to foreign influences throughout the history, foreign cultures have been blended together to form the Philippine's culture.
Spanish colonization, from Mexico, of Philippines lasted for more than three centuries; from 1569 till 1898. This significant influence can be seen in many customs and tradition of Philippines. You can see Hispanic influences in religion, folk dance, folk music, art, food and language. Hispanic is the term referred to the relation between modern day Spain, Andorra, Gibraltar and Portugal and its pre-Roman people. Even the native Pre-Hispanic Philippines culture has influences from India, Malaysia and Indonesia. It is because of these cultural influences that Philippine mythology has been influenced by Buddhism and Hinduism as well.
Before Second World War , Philippines was a US colony from 1898. It is for this reason that American influences can be seen in the usage of English language and contemporary pop culture namely basketball, music, fast food and movies.
