The Pigeon Cote The show season is just starting and the Pigeon Cote will help you locate a pigeon show in your area if there is one. Most pigeon shows are held in the fall, are free to the public, very informative and entertaining way to see some of these marvelous birds in the feather. Check it out. See if there is one in your neighborhood.
To have your event listed, simply email the site administrator:
If you cant find a show in your area, or just want to learn a little more about what goes on at a pigeon show just take in the virtual pigeon show at the Cote by following this link. As always, new items can be found in the new section if you are just looking to see what has been added in the last week or two, otherwise books are classified by type and then sorted by author. Just recently acquired a few new books, but also a very nice collection of NPA Show and Convention reports from 1998 through 2005. These professionally prepared reports are the best way to learn not only what type of breeds were being shown, but even the colors and varieties shown by the fanciers of the day. A super resource. These are located in the miscellaneous section.

Welcome to Pigeon Web - All you need to know about pigeons.
A quick introduction to pigeons:
Offering an accurate pigeon guide on every type of pigeon is nearly impossible. However, we can focus on the basic commonalities of pigeons and offer you a pigeon guide that is helpful, useful, and informative. Pigeons can make remarkably fun and intelligent companions when they have been well bred, well raised, and well cared for. Your commitment to your pigeon, or pigeons, will almost completely determine how well owning a pigeon works out for you. Pigeons are able to bond to their humans and are able to develop relationships with the people and animals of the household. Select your pigeon carefully . Know what your intentions are and what your interests are so that you are bringing home the right pigeon for you. Don’t settle for a breeder that makes you uncomfortable, appears too calloused, or isn’t interested in the health or socialization of the birds. Don’t be afraid to try other breeders. Before you bring a new pigeon home make sure you already have his new home all set and ready to go. Research your food options via the internet or through the breeder and provide him with a well balanced high grain food. Make sure his living space is cleaned even before he moves in to be sure that all the processing chemicals have been removed. As your official pigeon guide, it behooves me to remind you that it is always better to buy the pigeon after you purchase the housing and food materials, not at the same time.

It is a hobby that is , and has been enjoyed by people of all walks of life, and in all areas of the world. It is said to be the third most followed hobby in the world , after stamp, and coin collecting. * In the year 2002, we celebrated our centennial anniversary, and it was a great feeling of accomplishment *. Please browse through our site , and as you learn a little about our favorite pastime, you may find yourself more than a little interested in what we have to offer, because there are some 800 different breeds of domesticated pigeons to tease your fancy.

Plymouth Fancy Pigeon Club
"The Friendly Club"
The Plymouth Fancy Pigeon Club started life before the Second World War, when it was known as the Plymouth Fur and Feather Society. In those days it catered for rabbits, ducks chickens as well as Pigeons. At the age of eight Les Dawson our founder member and past Chairman and President was a junior member until the outbreak of the war. The same club was restarted after the war for pigeons only, Trevor Coslett, Arthur and Valerie Meek looking after the Fancy breeds and Les Dawson the Show Racers. Due to a shortage of workers and the death of Trevor Coslett the club went in demise for four seasons. A few dedicated fanciers decided to try again, Alf Beer and Burt Lovell were secretaries for a period and in 1981 Les and Emily Dawson took over, to become what is now known as The Plymouth Fancy Pigeon Club. In 2002 after 21 years of running the club Les and Emily retired as club Chairman and Secretary and Chris Cleave took over as Chairman and Les and Emily's daughter Pam Brewer as the secretary and treasurer. In the same year the club got its own web site run by Michael Whelan with the club history show reports and pictures, in 2006 Michael built a new site and the club got its own domain name.

The Passenger Pigeon or Wild Pigeon Ectopistes migratorius ) is an extinct bird, which existed in North America Some estimate that there were three billion to five billion passenger pigeons in the United States when Europeans arrived in North America. Others argue that the species had not been common in the Pre-Columbian period, but their numbers grew when devastation of the American Indian population by European diseases led to reduced competition for food. The species went from being one of the most abundant birds in the world during the 19th century to extinction early in the 20th century. At the time, passenger pigeons had one of the largest groups or flocks of any animal, second only to the Rocky Mountain locust Some reduction in numbers occurred because of habitat loss when the Europeans started settling further inland. The primary factor emerged when pigeon meat was commercialized as a cheap food for
