Play For more than 40 years, the Fairfax County School Planetariums have served more than 16,000 elementary school students each year. In recent years, every fourth and sixth grade class in our school district has the opportunity to experience the excitement of astronomy through an instructional field trip to one of our planetariums. Beginning in the fall of 2009, the FCPS planetariums are on hiatus due to budget constraints. Although FCPS is no longer providing funding for field trips, most of our facilities continue to be used for high school instruction. Some planetarium/astronomy teachers may be able to provide presentations on a limited basis. Please contact the planetarium closest to you for information. The Woodson Planetarium will present the Fall Sky at 2:30 on Monday, October 18 . Learn how to find Jupiter and other planets, the Big Dipper, the North Star, Summer Triangle and the Seven Sisters. Get the latest information on Comet Hartley and the Orionid meteor shower. All interested students, staff, family and friends are encouraged to come. Join us for Astronomy Night at Observatory Park on Friday, October 29!

About the Planetarium
The Nehru Planetarium in New Delhi is situated in the green surroundings of the Teen Murti House, earlier the official residence of India's first Prime Minister, Jawaharlal Nehru and now a museum in his memory. Conscious of the fact that an understanding of the spirit and method of science was crucial for children to become responsible citizens, Nehru liked every opportunity to be provided to them in this endeavor. In 1964, the Jawaharlal Nehru Memorial Fund was set up to promote his ideas and subsequently it undertook to build the Nehru Planetarium with its primary aim being the promotion of astronomy education. Nehru Planetarium is now a wing of the Nehru Memorial Museum and Library.
The Planetarium has been constantly improvising and innovating programmes for its visitors. The planetarium infrastructure and projection equipment has very recently been upgraded with the upgradation process being undertaken as a turn key project by the National Council of Science Museums, Kolkata. Inauguration of the renovated planetarium T he strength of the planetarium lies in its live interactions and programs for visitors, students and amateur astronomers. The Planetarium
